Running XP SP1, both IE & Firefox return a "page cannot be displayed" error on sites such as paypal, amazon, ebay, grisoft and others. No problem opening many other sites including yahoo, google, cnn, microsoft, mozilla.

Followed the malware instructions and ran AdAware, Spybot, CleanUp, NAV and other programs with the result of no malware detected.

Someone else posted a similar problem on June 2 but it was due to their ISP. In this case, two other computers at home have no problem accessing these sites so it's not the ISP at fault. Turning off all firewalls and security programs makes no difference.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

David

SUCCESS!

While playing with HiJackThis and clicking on the HOSTS file editor, all the websites that are inaccessible were listed there, along with some other anti-virus sites. Deleting them from the HOSTS list in WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/DRIVERS/ETC fixed the problem.

I may never know how those websites got on the HOSTS list but that's not a concern.

Cheers & thanks for the help,

David
