I have an annoying pop-up titled "Aurora, part of the ABI Network." I have gone through all the steps to remove malware and while it has found several trojans that my anti-virus software did not find, I still get these pop-ups.

The last step was to generate a hijack log. It is as follows:

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Please follow all instructions exactly as specified. I would advise printing them out so that you have the instructions for use in Safe Mode.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following:

Viewpoint

Exit Add or Remove Programs.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, Download, install, and update Ewido Security Suite
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
After the updates are installed, exit Ewido

Reboot into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

After Nailfix.cmd finishes:
  • Run Ewido.
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose "clean", then put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Exit Ewido
After running Ewido, go into this folder:

H:\WINDOWS\Prefetch

Look to see if there is ANY file that has "nail" or "svcproc" in the name. If there is, delete it!!

Next please run HijackThis. Place a check next to the following item and click FIX CHECKED:

Close HiJackThis.

Delete the following folders, in bold, if found:

H:\Program Files\Viewpoint
H:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking <-May be required if you run a file sharing program. However, it is strongly recommended that you get rid of it...

Restart your computer in normal mode and please scan with HijackThis again and post the new HiJackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

I was able to get through all the steps you provided (directions were clear). While in safe mode and after I ran hijack this the Viewpoint and P2p items were no longer there. Perhaps Ewido fixed these.

Attached are the 2 logs you requested. BTW, Aurora hasn't reared its ugly head since I completed these steps.

Let me know if there is anything I should do.

Thanks,

Mark
