Hi mgozalbo

This was your first post.

- I get pop ups saying that the system is unestable, or that Windows had detected corruption errors in my registry file (or something like that) from iau.exe and msras.exe and that I have to go to www.clean-xp.com (although the address changes with every pop up)
- The ie homepage has changed to "blank" and I cannot change it back
- I also get an alert everytime I reboot saying that ccApp.exe cannot close. I don't know what that is.

I what you to search the rigistery for the following.

Adware.EasySearch. iau.exe
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
In the right pane, delete the values:
"Microsoft Internet Acceleration Utility"="iau.exe"
"Internet Connection Wizard"="stisvsq.exe"
"Games Acceleration"="svshost.exe"
"Internet Mail and News"="msqdevl.exe"
"Microsoft Management Console"="lssas.exe"
"Multimedia extensions"="mservice.exe"

Looking at your log now.

Hi mgozalbo

Please download toolbarcop
Unzip and run the program look for a toolbar entry for any bad programs Delete if found.
http://windowsxp.mvp.../toolbarcop.htm

Next on the list:

Start with Clearing Java cache
Clearing the Java Plug-in cache ensures that the browser loads the latest versions of Java applications and applets.

To clear the Java Plug-in cache:
1. Click Start > Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Java icon in the control panel.
The Java Control Panel appears.
Java Control Panel

3. Click Settings under Temporary Internet Files.
The Temporary Files Settings dialog box appears.
Temporary Files Settings dialog box

4. Click Delete Files.
The Delete Temporary Files dialog box appears.
Delete Temporary Files dialog box
There are three options on this window to clear the cache.
1. Delete Files
2. View Applications
3. View Applets

5. Click OK on Delete Temporary Files window.
Note: This deletes all the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the cache.

6. Click OK on Temporary Files Settings window.
Note: If you want to delete a specific application and applet from the cache, click on View Application and View Applet options respectively.

Microsoft ActiveX
ActiveX Controls could do with a big cleanup. Open your browser and go to Tools > Internet Options and click on the General Tab. Click on Settings (next to Temporary Internet Files) and then click on View Objects. Rightclick on each and choose Properties. If there is anything there that you dont know what it is (microsoft, apple, macromedia etc are OK) or where it came from, delete it. If there are any damaged controls there, delete those also. If any are needed, you will be prompted to download them again anyway.

Thanx thatman

okay, so the situation now is:
-IE keeps showing the same message
-the pop ups have reappeared :tazz:
-the computer is sluggish again, but I don't know if that is because of Norton

I deleted two java applets, I didn't know where they came from and the date of creation was something stupid like 12/06/2068 so I thought that they couldn't be good.

I re-installed Norton and removed the other antivirus. (the pop ups reappeared before I'd done this, so I don't think they have anything to do with it)

The toolbarcop and hijackthis reports are as follows:
