Excal,
Did everything on the list you gave me.

Step 10. After running Adaware and then Hijackthis the files you asked me to remove were not present.

Step 12. In cmd mode the nail.exe thing said the following:
nail.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file.
Step 13. I found 4 systb.dll files, 1 nail.exe file, 1 svcProc.exe file and no heigyyy.exe or wupdt.exe files. I deleted them all.
Step 15. After reboot I ran activescan and after about 10 minutes everything locked up and I had to turn off and reboot. The scan had found 5 infections to that point!! I did not re run the scan yet.

Here is the findit log below. I will log off and do a fresh hijack log and post that next.

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
The current date is: Tue 06/28/2005
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FILES FOUND BY THIS METHOD ARE NOT BAD FILES, THERE MIGHT BE LEGIT FILES LISTED AND PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHILE FIXING. IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT IT IS LEAVE THEM ALONE.

Can I delete the files in the HJT log that relate to Yahoo Messenger? We got that when we used to have SBC ISP but never used it then and definately not now.

Mark you did really good ;) pat yourself on the back...but your not out of the woods yet ;)
(we can take care of yahoo messanger next time around)

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg (make sure that Save as Type is set at "All Files") on your Desktop. Ensure there is no space at above REGEDIT 4.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\aurora]

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

hmmmm, we got a little bugger here. Keeps renaming it self.

lets try to get it before it gets u!!!!!! :tazz:
I think it might be the narrator infection, I will find out for sure this time :help:

Just a few random bad files to clean up.
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
  • Navigate to this file - c:\windows\system32\ugrcms.exe
  • Double click on that file.
  • HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "YES".
go into safe mode on this reboot! (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).

Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [deixhz] c:\windows\system32\ugrcms.exe r

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

c:\windows\system32\ugrcms.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Reboot in normal mode

Please download FindQoologic from here:
http://forums.net-in...=post&id=134981
Save it to the desktop and run Find-Qoologic2.bat. This will generate a log file; please post the entire contents of the log file here for me to see.

Try doing the active scan one more time, if that doesn't work, try this one:

Kaspersky

Please post a fresh Hijack log, the kaspersky log and the FindQoologic log

Completed everything upto rebooting out of safe mode.
I found the C:\WINDOWS\nail.exe. When I went to delete it the icon kept reappearing in it's original location after about 3 seconds!!
The FinfQoologic thing seemed to work like the Ewido. with the window saying system file not suitable for MS-DOS and Windows........
I seem to be having problems with the active scan again but I will post the HJT log in a minute.
I am going to bed after that. I hope we can resolve this tomorrow!!!
Thanks for all your help so far.

Mark,

Do this when you get back on tommorrow.

If you have XP Home, download this file to your desktop:

http://homepage.ntlw...XPHomeFiles.exe

Double-click XPHomeFiles.exe to install the missing files.

Also download this, but don't do anything with it
Download Process Explorer from http://www.sysintern...ssExplorer.html

Thanks,

:tazz:

Hi Excal,
Sorry about the late hour tonite but hopefully we can get this licked.
I downloaded the the 2 files you directed me to.
The XPHome.exe unzipped to 3 files. I don't know which one to run...Help

The second download is on my desktop but not opened/unzipped as yet.

Please advise as to my next move.
