Hello. :tazz:
In a google search for help with the acursed Aurora adware, your board stood out from the rest (and I'll probably be frequenting here often, as you've got some interesting forums. Cheers).

Here are the programs I have been using:
- Symantec Norton Internet Security 2005 (Antispyware Edition)
- CrapCleaner
- Spybot S&D
- Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE
- CWShredder
- CleanUp

But Aurora is a tricky bugger, and I'll need additional help with the removal.
After running the above programs, here is my new HijackThis log:

1. Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite from HERE

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

2. Please download Nailfix.exe from HERE

. Click on Spyware Utilities.
. Then click on Nail/Aurora Fix

Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

3. Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode
by doing the following:

A. Restart your computer
B. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
C. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
D. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

4. Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

5. Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

6. Next run HijackThis, click Scan, and put a check mark beside:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [qzbilrx] c:\windows\system32\lsmpls.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mshhqrb] c:\windows\system32\qtbjtk.exe r
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {6685509E-B47B-4f47-8E16-9A5F3A62F683} - file://C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.htm (file missing) (HKCU)
O16 - DPF: {1C955F3B-5B32-4393-A05D-24B4970CD2A1} - http://stream1000.ba...cabs/videox.cab
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

7. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following files/folders(with all their content), if they still exist:

c:\windows\system32\qtbjtk.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
c:\windows\system32\lsmpls.exe
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker<---Folder
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

8. Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Regards,

Hi Trevuren, thanks for the friendly and quick response.

I've done as you've suggested.
Some things of note:

During the HijackThis scan (step 6 above) the following two objects were not present:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mshhqrb] c:\windows\system32\qtbjtk.exe
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

The five files/folders you listed in step 7 did not exist when I looked for them. (I assume this is a good thing).

Other than that, everything seemed to go fine.
Here is the log from the Ewido scan:

Congratulations, your log shows that your SYSTEM IS CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you are completely clean:

1. Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files from the backup that Windows makes as no program is able to clean those files:

TO DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
1. Right-click "My Computer", and then left click "Properties".
2. Left click on "System Restore Tab"
3. Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
4. Left click on "Apply"

TO ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
1.Remove check mark from "Turn Off System Restore"
2.Click on "Apply"

2. Cleanup the leftovers. Download CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.

3. Finally, Re-hide your System Files and Folders to prevent any future accidents.

Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update
regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? (My Favorite)
