Massive Slowdown, Freezing, Etc... [CLOSED]

Getting major system slowdown with almost any sort of applications running...It all happened suddenly, possibly due to ineffective firewalling when I was in Germany for a few days?

System is ridiculously slow, freezes up from time to time (programs reporting as not responding when I try to close them, only to clear up if I wait 5-10 minutes)

Hi Blissanbandoned,

You are one of the few guys I have seen on this forum who is over protecting and in fact throttling your PC !!!!!

You have 3 AV software products on your PC !!!!!!! McAfee, Norton and AVG. Multiple AV products do not offer any additional protection. Infact the conflict between the various products can severly hamper the performance of the PC. I suspect that this is the case with your PC.

Please disable two of them. All three of them are equally capable. You might keep in mind that AVG is a free product for personal use while Norton and McAfee are to be paid for. In case your subscription for Norton / McAfee are due to renewal then you should consider uninstalling them and retaining AVG.

After installing two of the 3 AV products please continue with the following instructions -

Please download and copy Hijack This.exe in a new folder C:\HJT. This will enable HJT to create backups of all its actions.

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
O2 - BHO: QuickSearch SearchBar - {82315A18-6CFB-44a7-BDFD-90E36537C252} - C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\QuickSearchBar3_28.dll
O3 - Toolbar: QuickSearch SearchBar - {82315A18-6CFB-44a7-BDFD-90E36537C252} - C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\QuickSearchBar3_28.dll

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control panel. This should be the 3rd item). Uninstall or remove the following items -

Quick Search

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folder -

C:\Program Files\QuickSearch

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder. Dont delete the folder, only the files in it !!!!!!!!


Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Please visit Panda and do an online scan. Save the scan report.

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Panda scan report.
