I was able to import a reg fix file into the registry through cmd.
I rebooted and all the icons went back to their normal state. I ran two or three programs and it seemed to work fine.
I went to do a hijack this scan, and all the icons reverted to a non working state.
Still getting the same messages.
Another funny thing happens whenn I log off.

A window comes up with wierd unreadable characters that just freezes my pc and wont let me do anything.

Almost frustrated now.

Thanks for all of your help guys...

reg files...

press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a Command Prompt window. Enter REGEDIT.EXE and press Enter.

then from the menu, choose FILE > IMPORT, and point to those files
