I've done the Ad-Aware procedure that you recommended to the previous postee on the same subject. I am using RealTime Protector which is 'denying access to Abieib32' apparently. What do I do now?

It appears you have a trojan. Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):

And a free trojan scan here:

Hi MissLillah. Welcome to our board. I usually don't give tutorials on this forum, but I spent a long time on your log and it has some peculiar things. Read these items and follow instructions before cleaning up the HiJack This Log.

1. Are you running a Dell or Compaq? It appears you have a great deal of HP programs. I found this information on one of your entries and it only deals with Compaq or Dell. If you have an HP, it may need some more looking into.

C:\Apps\ActivBoard\nhksrv.exe

Netropa Hotkey Server task seen only on DELL and Compaq PCs running Windows NT4/2000/XP. Our understanding is that this task prevents any hotkeys you configured via the Netropa/Dell hotkeys configuration software, from working when your PC is locked by a screensaver.

Recommendation :
NHKSRV is sometimes responsible for literally eating up CPU cycles, up to 90% CPU usage sometimes. So, although NHKSRV is effectively a security feature, you may need to disable it and possibly completely disable hotkey support altogether. To disable, use The Ultimate Troubleshooter, or if you cannot see NHKSRV in The Ultimate Troubleshooter, go to "Control Panel \ Services" in WinNT4, or "Control Panel \ Administrative Tools \ Services" in Win2000/XP to set this service to "Manual".

2. Also: This entry needs to be removed.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Update Service] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\TEKNUM~1\update.exe /startup

I got this information from Tony Klein: You can download updEnabler.exe on http://www.handybits...ate_service.asp
It will allow you to disable the update service.

Your program will still require Update.exe to load at startup, but it won't want to access the net any more.

3. Also: The 021 entry has problems: O21 - SSODL: Web Event Logger - {79FEACFF-FFCE-815E-A900-316290B5B738} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\Gdemojpa.dll

Troj/Padodo-Fam is a family of proxy and backdoor trojans with password-stealing functionality.

When first run the trojans copy themselves to the Windows system folder with a random filename and an extension of EXE and drop a library DLL to the system folder with a random filename and an extension of DLL.

The DLL is registered as a COM object creating registry entries similar to the following:

HKCR\CLSID\(79FEACFF-FFCE-815E-A900-316290B5B738) \InProcServer32\
HKCR\CLSID\(79FEACFF-FFCE-815E-A900-316290B5B738) \InProcServer32\@ =
HKCR\CLSID\(79FEACFF-FFCE-815E-A900-316290B5B738)
\InProcServer32\ThreadingModel = "Apartment"

The following registry entry is created to load the DLL on startup:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad\Web Event Logger =
(79FEACFF-FFCE-815E-A900-316290B5B738)

The DLL component launches the trojan executable, which then runs continuously in the background allowing unauthorized access and control of the computer from a remote network location.

Instructions for removal:

On Windows XP

1. Restart your computer.
2. Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
3. Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Identifying the Malware Program

To remove this malware, first identify the malware program.

1. Scan your system with your Trend Micro antivirus product (the one admin. had you run).
2. NOTE all files detected as BKDR_BERBEW.F.

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.
