0x80090019 Error at login screen

Hi there,

Today my Laptop came up with the following error:

"A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code 0x80090019."

This happens on every boot on any of the accounts. No new hardware or software has been added for the last few weeks at least. It will however boot into safe mode. It was an OEM install from PC world (UK) and didnt come with an install disk for windows, so I cant do the XP repair :tazz:

I`ve looked at various ideas for fixes on this on many site and exhausted them all......

Anyone have any idea what I can do here at all?

No its a PC world Advent, worth trying though I guess as its an OEM install

Boot into Safe Mode
then

start>run, and type
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll
Click OK and wait for the message that the registration succeeded.

Then go to

start>run, and type
regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

Click OK and wait for the confirmation again.

Reboot the system normally

Still no luck, even did a system restore........still the same

ickkk, don't like where this is going....

I think I would try to force a new activation...how long have you had this PC?

Had it around 5 months problem free...I didnt have to activate it when I got it. It was done already.

Cant activate from safe-mode though...how can I do that?

hold up there partner....the problem is your last line.....came preactivated....

preactivated PCs have some funky issues--names, the CD_key on your computer and the one in the registry are not necessarily the same thing (instead, they are often a special key for the OEM).

What do you have by way of Windows XP CD?

All I have is an XP home upgrade disk from my desktop

are they both windows xp home?

If so, I'd be leaning toward a windows repair rather than try and fight with this thing.

Otherwise, what I was going to suggest is that you

1. In the registry, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents

Highlight that folder and then choose and File > Export (as a precaution) then in the right pane double click OOBETimer and very carefully change just the first byte to say

00

Then COPY the two files windows\system32\wpa.dbl and wpa.bak to a
different folder, and the DELETE them from the system32 folder

Then get on the internet and then

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Activate Windows
and use Activate on the internet now.

That should only take a few seconds and windows should activate

If any of that gives you any trouble put those files back, and import the registry key back again, before doing anything else.
