you need to be in the root directory

from c:\windows change to c:\

type
cd..
<enter>

when i put c:\ and press enter it stays the same just makes another line that says the same c:\WINDOWS

you are not reading what I am writing

CD..

means change directory to the parent directory

from

if you have

c:\windows\

add

c:\windows\cd..

and it will change to

c:\

ok geeze im sorrry this is taking so long. i did the cd SPACE .. then im to the root file and i put in attrib -r -a -s -h boot.ini and it wont do the same ARG

OK, let's change gears here....if you are going to be working on PCs anyway, this is an INVALUABLE tool


Grab a windows xp disk and head over to another machine then download the following

Bart's PE

Read the instructions carefully

You can customize one later, but for now, just make one (make sure the cd is at least xp sp1) and then take it back to this machine and reboot with it.

You will load into a XP-like environment and you can actually open the files directly with out old DOS commands.

i wont have time for that today but thankyou for the help. i needed to get this done because an old friend is coming in town and my boss said that i cant go see her unless i fixed this computer before the end of the day. now with that program i download it and what is the windows xp cd going to dowith it. i saw no instructions.

You make a bootable windows xp cd---windows boots from the cd, loads from the cd...you can access ntfs disks.

If you gotta get it done, I'd stop messing around and just run a windows repair on it and stop farting around.

when you ran the repair, which version did you repair---the chinese or the english ?

ANd what CD did you use?

Is this the problem the PC came in with, or did you do a repair and make a new problem?
