Dial up connection

Still using dial up. When I dial up for the first time in the day I connect at approx. 44 Kbps when I power down then sign on again in the same day I generally connect at approx 26 Kbps. When I power down then connect again in the same day I connect at approx 14 Kbps. etc..... Basically each time I sign back on in the same day the connection speed is lower.
My system is one running XP PRo, with a 56K low profile modem with plenty of memory.
I read that I should have the phone compnay come out to do a test of the line to see if I have excessive line noise.
Any advise or diection would be appreciated.

I would have the phone company check your line for noise check to make sure that the drivers for your modem are up to date. in your modem setting you can check it to only connect at the higher rate but if it can not due to something stopping it you will not connect at all some times with dialup connecting will be set by how many poeple are on line at that time.who is your Isp? then we can look into this more.
