:tazz:

I completely restored my windows xp after finding the old disks. I have installed AVG Free, Spyware doctor, Adaware, and am using Earthlink with Firefox after finding that this is better according to research for not having as much spyware/infections. The internet seems to be working ok...however at times it is freezing seems to be only when online and sometimes I am not able to access the task manager even after CTRL/ALT/Delete
nothing will happen except the small clear box that shows up on the bottom right in the bar. If I do it again it will just open another box. By that time I cannot even shut the computer down properly because the programs will not end when I try to close them, or after I have used the shut down function or restart it will say it is trying to end the task but then it wont continue and then it offers the box for me to end the task. Also something that is weird is that when I came on here to sign on there was already asterix in the password and name boxes and said I was last here at * something pm. I have not been on here since I restored this computer now I am worried. I removed any spyware and trojans that I know of and did it in safe mode...any suggestions. I am going to update for security issues with Xp for starters.
Thanks
;)

Can you bring up Task Manager by right clicking in the system tray?

Try running a System File Check:
Start > Run > cmd
sfc /scannow

I now know that icon that shows up after the taskmanager refuses to start is not for the task manager. But repeated copies of the task bar icon show up. It freezes and wont allow me to access the taskmanager by rightclicking either, then I cannot access anything. This seems to happen five -10 minutes after I am online. At first I can access the taskmanager by right clicking or ctrl/alt/del but then everything freezes if I try to access it later on. Seen someone else had the same type of problem, I just don't know if I will be able to follow the instructions. I am running scannow like you suggested though. Thanks
