I ran everything in your prep for malware list, except I didn't download DSO Exploit for Spybot b/c I noticed it was for version 1.3 and I have 1.4...

After working on this for almost 30 hours in the past week, I finally have my homepage back , and my runs are coming clean, but I just want to be sure I am in the clear (THANK GOODNESS for CleanUp...it got rid of 18,000+ files in a temp zip that we couldn't touch any other way!) My system is still running ultimately slow for being a cable connection. I'm not sure if it has to do with McAfee Privacy Service (newly installed) or still battling virus. When I ran the Trend Housecall scan, it flagged "Troj_Nail.B and Troj_Adwaheck.A" both of which came back as non-cleanable.

Hi there. Thanks for your follow-up. I have been running Spybot, AdAware, & McAfee VirusScan and Antispy and for the most part have been clean. It appears that I have lost the VX2s and misc trojans invading my system, though under AdAware, I still show MRUs and Tracking Cookies, and every so often Anti-Spy pops up with "Downloader-YH". While I am quite happy with these improvements, my system is still running super duper slow...taking 1-2 minutes for pages to load, etc, which is uncharacteristic with a cable hookup. I ran a new hijack this log to see if there is anything in there that could be causing it. Oh, and I also ran a disk defrag to help the problem with no luck OH, and BTW, this morning when I signed on to my system it said I had one program running, but there was nothing in my taskbar, so I Ctrl-Alt-Dlt for Task Manager and it had an icon (windows maybe?) and just said "hidden". Also yesterday I got the warning message "virtual memory minimum too low" and that windows was increasing the size of virtual memory paging file?? Guessing this has something to do with the slow response? Hmmm.....over my head, but probably not yours! Thanks again for your assistance.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Reboot the PC and post a fresh Hijack This log here along with Ewido Scan report.

Hi there. I did what you said except for where it said to check "F2- REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\\WINDOWS\Nail.exe" it wasn't there in my log to be checked. I hope I didn't goof anything though b/c I forgot to unzip Nail to desktop before going to safemode, so it wasn't opening in safe, and I had to go back into regular mode and when I did that, I got several messages from Ewido about violators to my system. I didn't take action at that time though, so hopefully that was okay. My system in the meantime has improved to a slow crawl...

Dont worry about any warnings which may recieve while doing the fixes. We are trying to work like the infection, only we are undoing the work of the infections. Sometimes the security softwares will flag your actions. This is good because it means that they are doing their job

So your PC has improved to a slow crawl ?? Well we will get it back into shape for sprinting soon.


Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall sosme programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them in a new folder on your desktop -

CleanUp
Find_Qoologic

Unzip Find_Qoologic and save the extracted files on the desktop. Dont run any programs yet.

2. Run Hijack This

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [180ClientStubInstall] "C:\temp\stubinstaller6480.exe"

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

3. CleanUp

Run CleanUp and delete all temp files including temporary internet files

4. Delete Rogue files

Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control panel. This should be the 3rd item). Uninstall or remove the following items -

180 Solutions

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

C:\temp\stubinstaller6480.exe

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder. Dont delete the folder, only the files in it !!!!!!!!


Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Run Find-Qoologic2.bat. This will generate a log file; please post the entire contents of the log file here for me to see along with a fresh HJT log.

I have CleanUP installed on my PC already, but when I went to download FindQoologic from the link, I was directed to "cyberanswers.org" and tried everything to find a link from there but no such luck. I even went to google and yahoo to find other sources and the 3 pages I found to access this program all came back as invalid or expired. Weird!

Good Evening Tampabelle!

I did as you said in your instructions. Just a few notes:

1) 180 solutions was not found in my programs file in control panel;
2) nor was C:\temp\stubinstaller6480.exe found in Explorer (I even did a search
and no results)
3) rootkit revealer came up with nothing (therefore no log to post here)
4) while running rootkitrevealer, I got a flag from McAfee AntiVirus that the "C:\system volume information\restore {B37680B2-BAOA-4E5D3} was infected with W32/sdbot.worm.gen.l virus and that A0001595.exe was deleted in the clean process. It prompted me to run a full scan, which I did that came up clean.

Here is my new HJT log. System still taking 1-2 minutes to load Outlook Express, and several times comes back as "not responding". Grrr...

Good evening, Tampabelle! I was able to download and run Find_Qoologic, but not sure if it ran successfully or not. I received the message "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 32\cmd.exe C:\windows\system32\autoexe.nt
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose Close to terminate." It gave me the option to close or ignore and I tried ignoring several times and that didn't work so then I clicked closed several times and I think it worked okay because a log popped up when I was done; however, I also got the following message listed 19 times!!!!:

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

Run the downloaded file. This will fix the autoexec.nt issue.

Now run Find-Qoologic2.bat. This will generate a log file; please post the entire contents of the log file here for me to see.
