hard drive problem

my harddrive can be detected by the BIOS as the secondary master but when i boot up my PC there is a message that says "Secondary master Fail"....what doews that mean? and what should i do about it?

Make sure you have your jumpers set correctly. If your master is set to cable select, so should your slave be. If the master is set to master, the second drive should be set to slave.

Is this drive new, used, did it come with software and instructions?
