I had a notice of a virus bulldog or something like that. Norton said it couldnt fix it and asked what to do with it. I chose delete the file (WININET.DLL). Turns out I needed that file. So I figured I'd wipe everything and reinstall win 98. I got a disk from the friend I got the computer from.

Anyway I'm back online now but I only have 16 color available in the display settings. I use to have 16 bit. How do I get 16bit color again?

Any help will be much apreciated. :tazz:

Howdy and welcome to G2G:

You need to get the proper drivers installed for your video card..

Perhaps the person you got the system from can tell you what it is and if they have the driver cd/floppy for it!!

Thanks Murray S.

I dont think He has a driver or even knows what video card is on this system. I just got it from him for $20. It was given to him by someone else.

So I guess what I need to know is; How do i find out what video card I have? And how do I go about getting the driver for it?

I have no idea

I talked to my friend he doesn't have the driver. He told me the system was just pieced together.

How do I find out what driver to use?

Is there some way to find out what video card I have without taking off my case? If not how do I recognize the vidoe card amongst all the other stuff? :tazz: ;)

thanks again for any help.

The Trident is your video card but the drivers aren't loaded for it so Windows is using the generic vga drivers..

Here's your DRIVER

Yes, when I double click on setep.exe it loads a install shield and then a warning window pops up saying it cannot find any Trident chips.

Yet everest had no problem finding it.

Okay, we'll try this a different way..

Go HERE

It will ask you to sign up for a free account.. use the Login to My account option..

When the username/password window opens, use drivers/all for the login/password combo..

You will get another window saying your account is about to expire..

Just read the bottom sentence and click where is says to and continue on..

You will end up at the download page..

Follow those instructions and download the .zip file..

Once you get it downloaded, unzip it and tell what is in the folder..

Ok, I have it downloaded and unzipped and it seems to be the same as the other one. There's about 75 programs in the folder. When I click on the one that says setup and has computer icon (setup.exe) a trident screen pops up, then a screen saying

Driver Display Setup is preparing InstallShield® Wizard which will guide you through the rest of the setup process. please wait.

This screen is only up for about 2 seconds before anothe one pops up saying

Warning
Cannot find Trident Graphic Chips

And thats adout it.

Oh most of the programs in the file ask me what I want to open them with when I click on them. And because I have no Idea what to open them with I just cancel. In the past if I pick the wrong program it always seems to be stuck that way.
