Hi
I have XP Pro fully serviced packed/patched on two PC's

I have successfully Mapped a Network drive from PC 1 to PC 2

So when I do a "View Neighborhood Computers" I can see PC 1 on both computers. I tried to a a similar MAP on PC 2, but I cannot get PC 2 to be visible on the first computer.

I have shared the drive
Done a Map Drive etc

I have also dispensed with the XP route and gone to DOS and I did a "Net Share" to share the folder and "Net Use" to map the drive

However, none of my efforts have succeed. The Error Message I get when I try and Map the drive on the other PC is "Network Path could nt be found" I cannot see it when I browse the network neighborhood, so I type in \\Public_Server\Test and it still cannot find it

Any ideas

Regards Helen

Many common network setup errors can be resolved using XP's Network Setup Wizard. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> Network Setup Wizard. Run the setup on one computer, create the setup floppy, and use it to configure the second computer. Have you tried this?

Hi
I'll give that a try, I did use the wizard, but I did not create a setup floppy, so I'll try that.

Many Thanks

Hi Again

I have now tried the suggested solution of using the wizard, however, I am still having problems making the second PC Visible on the networtk. I have re-Mapped the first PC, and that has work fine, but the second one refuises to be visible.

I was wondering if there were any other suggestions...

Many thanks
Helen

1. Ensure XP's built-in firewall is not enabled on the LAN connection. This
will kill file & printer sharing.

2. Ensure all the necessary network components are installed:
Go to LAN connection, right click -> Properties;
The following should be present:
--Client for Microsoft Networks
--File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

3. Ensure NetBIOS is enabled by:
Go to LAN connection, right click -> Properties;
select TCP/IP, click Properties;
click Advanced;
WINS tab | Enable NetBIOS.
