OK,

Tried to do this without bothering everyone but this site really seems to be helping people. So, please add me to the list!

Got Aurora, Bullseye, Navisearch, and about a hundred others on the kids computer when the babysitter started doing her own web surfing. In the end the computer was unprotected (my fault) and just got creamed.

I have dowloaded ewido, Spyware Doctor, nailfix and now HJT. I have run and re-run these things but the unwanted pop ups keep coming particularly after I open IE even though I have the blockers set up. Every time I think I have it fixed and I am getting ready to release the computer back to the kids - I get another ad for party poker or worse! :tazz:

Here is the latest log.

Hello and welcome to GeeksToGo. My name is Kat, and I will be helping you. You should either print these instructions, or else save them to a Notepad file on your desktop.

1. Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-us7.hpwis.com/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://us7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\prnkjn.exe reg_run
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [exp.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\exp.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Y0t8RRi4l] mapenum.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CAS Client] "C:\Program Files\Cas\Client\casclient.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [180ClientStubInstall] "C:\temp\stubinstaller6480.exe"

O16 - DPF: {6414512B-B978-451D-A0D8-FCFDF33E833C} (WUWebControl Class) - http://v5.windowsupd...b?1102556852375

O18 - Filter: text/html - {8293D547-38DD-4325-B35A-F1817EDFA5FC} - C:\Program Files\Cas\Client\casmf.dll

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

CAS

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\Program Files\CAS

3.
  • Locate and please run Killbox.
  • Select "Delete on Reboot".
  • Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
    C:\temp\stubinstaller6480.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\prnkjn.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\exp.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mapenum.exe
  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  • Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
After the pc has rebooted from the Killbox, please do the following:

4. Download CleanUp
Install the program.
Running CleanUp
  • Start CleanUp
  • When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
  • Uncheck cookies
Note: This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea.
  • Click OK
  • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
  • When asked to reboot system select No
  • Close CleanUp
5. Please make a reply to this thread after all of the above are complete. Let me know how things are running now, and post me a new HJT log taken after all the steps are done. :tazz:

Kat!! ;)
Thanks so much for the help. I tried to follow all your instructions but hit a few bumps along the way.

I still have the pop up ads unfortunately though. :tazz:
I have several programs that I am not sure of. I suspect some of these are childrens games that may have been loaded from CDs. Deleting that type of stuff is no big deal if it helps.
I don't know what these are:
Dark Orbit
Detto
Indeo
KBD
Larnout
PigPen
PS2
Python
S3Gamma2
S3Info

One moer thing - the Killbox didn't show the four files in the box. It would only take one file at a time. And then I got the message that the Pending File Rename Operation Has Been Removed by External Process. No idea what that means.

Here is the HJT from one minute ago.

There are a couple of things still in your log we will need to remove, but first I want to find what is causing your pop ups. As to the programs you listed above, a few of them are critical system programs. none of them are harmful, so leave them all there! :tazz:

*Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Hi again, Mike! You have a Narrator infection, which can be tricky to remove if not done properly. I haven't worked with that type of infection as of yet, so I have asked a good friend of mine, Excal, to take over from here in helping you. He's worked with this infection several times, and will have you fixed up in no time! :tazz:

Hi Mike,

As my friend Kat has stated, u do indeed have the lovely narrator infection ;)
This will be a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Lets see if we can get this cleaned up for you.

Please download FindQoologic from here:
http://forums.net-in...=post&id=134981
Save it to the desktop and run Find-Qoologic2.bat. This will generate a log file; please post the entire contents of the log file here for me to see.

Thanks,

:tazz:

Excal - I got this error
16 Bit MSDOS Subsystem
And then had to clock CLose or Ignore each time it looked at a file. Here is the "log" in quotes because I'll bet it's not what you are looking for.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FILES FOUND BY THIS METHOD ARE NOT BAD FILES, There WILL be LEGIT FILES LISTED PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHILE FIXING. IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT IT IS LEAVE THEM ALONE.
some examples are MRT.EXE NTDLL.DLL.

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg (make sure that Save as Type is set at "All Files") on your Desktop. Ensure there is no space at above REGEDIT 4.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\xftgntgg]

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Please download and run this:

http://www.visualtou...oads/xp_fix.exe

then run Find-Qoologic2.bat again please ;)

Thanks,

OK Excal, I'm back -- A few things I feel like you should know.

My Startup is not starting. This is new on the last startup. To get to any programs I am having to cntrl/alt/del and browse to my desktop and programs. I just lost my start button after the last set of instructions. I am sure I did something....any ida what?

Ewido keeps telling me its finding infected objects.

Most restarts take forever.

I get a message that nwiz.exe failed to run and do I want to notify Windows. I have not.

Last Qool run I had to fix that 16 bit problem again.

Sorry this took so long to get back to you. In the end, I think I have a new log for you.

Here you go:
