Greetings,

After installing the latest Windows service pak on my XP Home machine, I get a script error when logging onto WM Connect ISP, which lists the following URL:

http://member.compus...live/wmnew.html

Here's what I did:

Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Browsing: both "disable script debugging" boxes are checked and the "Display notification of script errors" box is unchecked.

The error still occurs

Then I did this:

Start/Run/Regsvr32 urlmon.dll, clicked "OK", in urlmon.dll succeeded I clicked "OK"

Still the error, so I ran "Hijack This" and here are the results:

Thanks for the reply. After running the latest version of hjt, I rebooted and the error did not appear. Hopefully its gone for good. Here's the log file anyway. Please let me know if you see anything that should be removed.

You have a hijacker aboard. If you haven't done so already, I want you to run Adaware.

Download Ad-aware from: http://www.geekstogo...n=download&id=5

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

-> Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:

• Automatically save log-file
• Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
• Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :

• Scan Within Archives
• Scan Active Processes
• Scan Registry
• Deep Scan Registry
• Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
• Scan my Hosts file
• Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
• All of your hard drives

-> Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:

• Include additional process information
• Include additional file information
• Include environment information
• Include additional object details

-> Click the Tweak button and select:

• Under the Scanning Engine:
  • Unload recognized processes during scanning
  • Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
  • Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
• Under the Cleaning Engine:
  • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

-> Click on Proceed to save the settings.

-> Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:

• Use Custom Scanning Options

-> Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

-> Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

-> When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

-> Reboot your computer.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic.

Please Download LSPFix from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm and Run the Program. Disconnect from the Internet and close all Internet Explorer Windows. Check the "I know what I'm doing" Button and remove all traces of [file]. Reboot.

Post a fresh log.

I rebooted and received an error that said my "Norton Antivirus e-mail protection could not be enabled". Then I tried to activate WMCONNECT and it stuck on "TALKING TO NETWORK".

I had created a RESTORE POINT prior and restored my puter so I could get back on the net. Maybe I misunderstood and should not have removed all of the above files.

No. I messed up. I should have told you what file to remove. I got in a rush and got careless.

You did good by removing this file: osmim.dll

These three needed to stay:

mwsock.dll Tcpip
winrnr.dll NTDS
rsvpsp.dll (Protocol handler)

The restore point probably corrected the removals. Post a new log when finished.

If that isn't the case, follow the next set of instructions.

Go to Start -> Run, type SCF /SCANNOW. Have the WindowsXP CD handy.

(Make sure there is a space between scf and the slash.)

Alrighty, this log is after removing only the osmim.dll file. BTW, I tried Start -> Run, SCF /SCANNOW and got an error saying "SCF" is not recognized. Even if it worked, my no-named machine did not include the xp disc.

Oops a little typo there, it's sfc.exe /scannow, have your windows installation disk handy.

No, it won't work without it. It compares critical system files on your pc to the ones on the disk and replaces the corrupt ones. Did you get any sort of disk with your pc? Like a system recovery disk or something?

Ok, that's fine, lets move on to removing the hijacker you have on board. Please close all browsers and programs and rescan with Hijack This and post fresh log.
