My parents have been having problems with trojans and spyware for the last few days. Since it's my vacation, I decided I'd stop by and help out. I ran an AVG scan, and it said the machine (Windows 98) has the startpage.16.M trojan, the vbs/psyme virus, and the win32 bube virus. When I ran highjack this, I also found the Ceres.dll bug. The symptoms include pop-ups from ceres, and when the computer boots up, an explorer error (This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down). If I close out this box, my desktop disappears, and I continue to get the illegal operation message.

Here's the Highjack This log. Any help or advice is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Please Click here!, and follow the recommendations in the guide.

If you're still having trouble, post your log as a new topic in the Hijack This forum. It will get a better response there from the people most qualified to analyze logs.

Most of what Hijack This lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
