[Wisdom]

Hi, I'm having difficulty removing theis ceres.dll. I have done all the step that are required before posting a hijack this log. The ewido program got rid of some malware that I was completely unaware of and at least switches off the desktop search that runs at system start up, so thanks for the help so far. My system is very slow, and can literally take hours to open certain websites, please help
and hey thanks in advance!

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

To fix your ISEARCH infection:

• Download ISearchfix by Atribune from HERE
  
• Run the program and let it install itself into its own folder.
  
• REBOOT INTO SAFE MODE
  
• Open the ISEARCH Folder and run the .bat file.
  
• Allow it to finish running.
  
• Now REBOOT back into Normal Mode
  
• Post the ISEARCH log along with a fresh HJT log.

Download L2mfix from this location:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Hi Trevuren,

That step didn't quite go as you described. When the system rebooted the desktop and icons appeared but didn't disappear, after about 10 minutes I opened my icon, the C:\WINDOWS\SYTEM32\CMD.EXE box appeared and carried on its process and this is what came up in that box:

It did what we wanted.

Make double sure to disable Spybot's Tea Timer for now, as it can interfere with the fixing of problems.

Open Spybot and and make sure you are in Advanced mode (check it in the 'Mode' menu). Go to the Tools section and click resident and then uncheck the box for Tea Timer.

Then, reboot

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

If you or your admininstrator or a program like Spybot have not set the following restrictions, please include them among the entries to be deleted from HJT.

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.


Using Windows Explorer, locate the following folders, and DELETE them, with all their content (if they are present):

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

We must stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

1. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'

Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK

Click the Extended tab.

Scroll down until you find the service.

Service: iPod Service (iPodService) - Unknown owner

Click once on the service to highlight it.

Click Stop

Right-Click on the service.

Click on 'Properties'

Select the 'General' tab

Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box

From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'

Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.


2. We will now delete the service:

1. Open HJT
2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service
3. Type iPodService in the space provided and click OK
4. The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept

5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE

6. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following folder (if it still is present):

C:\Program Files\iPod (And all its content)

7. REBOOT back into Normal Mode
