hey
this is my problem :
3 computers,
1 - old celeron 333 mhz runing win2k server sp4 with 3 network cards
1 card goto cable modem with automatic ip (it says in the ip field DHCP enable) card 1 ip 192.168.0.1 connects to pc2
card 2 ip 192.168.0.2 to pc3
all cables plug in all drivers working
i can ping to myself in this computer, 0.1 and 0.2 responding,
seems like verything is set ok.
the server for in2k is not installed, no dns or dhcp servers are running and most of the services are disabled,
ICS is running on the connection to internet to share with card 1 (0.1)
no router or anything
pc 2 runing winxp sp2 fully workable that can ping itself BUT canot ping out
no firewall is runing all stupid windows stuff a disabled
the ip on the card is set to 192.168.0.4 and gateway set to 0.1 ,
dns is empty (good?)
- no network, no internet and no ping -
pc3 is about the same only different is :
in the win2k pc i can see pc2 from time to time, i played with it in the last few days
and i can see both pc1 and pc2 in the network but only on pc1, pc2 couldnt see any network, sayin the list of servers not available (i try to run the dhcp server on the win2k but that didnt help)
then i restart , with no change, and it didnt log to network anymore,
also the network was very very slow and i couldnt ping pc2 from pc1 even that it apears in the net
pc3 never apears in the net but i ping from it (0.3) to the win2k pc (0.2)
its gateway is on 0.2,
i wont it to be when i can share the ionternet connection to one card and share files and folders to the other card (or pc) dont need both to have internet shared,
i tryed to run the network wizzard on both xp computers for a few times , i try to connect only one, change the cards locations, even install the wingate software that shared internet for only one computer (it suppose to share for more then one) but the network wasnt working at all,....
anyone have any clue? i know this is a not simple problem.... <_<
k thanx geeks,

We should meet in the chat room sometime to discuss this easier. I think we should get this network set up differently in order to make it work properly.

Is your network set up as a Workgroup or Domain?

We need each client pc to be on it's own subnet connected to the server. The default gateway on each client should be the static ip address of the network card it is connected on the server end. You must configure "Routing" on your server. Go into administrative tools and click Routing, or it might be Routing and Remote Access. Enable it on your server then right click it and configure it for each network (you have 2). You will be asked for the range of addresses, but you only need to put one address for each network since your clients have should have static IP's. Make sure your main Network card has DHCP enabled so the Server can obtain an IP to access the internet.

internet sharing is disabled, maybe this is why? when i share it
it gives the option to only share 1 card...

Tell me the basic mapping you have laid out for this network.

Server IP's?
nic a:
nic b:
nic c:

Client 1?
nic ip:

Client 2?
nic ip:

Sometimes the subnets and ip's can be a bit tricky. Actually most of the time.

Tell me the basic mapping you have laid out for this network.

Server IP's?
nic a: DHCP get ip from the cable company
nic b: 192.168.0.1 goes to client 1
nic c: 192.168.0.2 goes to client 2

Client 1?
nic ip: 192.168.0.4

Client 2?
nic ip: 192.168.0.5

both client Gateway set to the nic they connected to

dns server run on the DHCP ip of nic a
dhcp server running good (i think)

thnx

Locate the host file. C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts open it with notepad.
Then type in the computer's names and ip addresses like this

192.168.0.129 computerA
192.168.0.128 computerB

With 4 or 5 spaces in between the address and whatever the computer is called. Then you will be able to reach the computer by name. You do not have a dns server, so you're having problems with the computer names i believe.

Have you configured RRAS on the server? If you have started the service as a Network Router you now have to go to Administrative Tools and click Routing. Then find the service in the Console Tree and right click it. You can then configure the IP addresses of your networks. Basically you are telling your server which addresses are which network.

and now its not working, i get pepole to view the files but not to read them,
what i need to set in win2k to run this good?
if i run the software on the winxp with
