Hi Experts !

Please kindly help me out ! I bought a used computer but now having problem starting the computer. The spec is as follow:

AMD Athlon XP 2200+
ECS mobo
128Mb RAM
IBM 40G HD
CD-RW

I tested the computer and it was working yesterday. But now when I try to start the computer, the system and CPU fans will run really loudly, and the HD light indicator will turn solid red, and I consistently hear some weird but regular sound (looks like it's coming from the HD). The CD-RW light indicator will keep blinking as if it's trying to read CD. And there is nothing showing on the screen. There isn't even any message saying the drive is corrupted or some sort. I let it sits there for couple minutes and it's still doing and repeating the same thing.

Do you have any idea?

from your description, it sounds like the comp is not going into POST, correct? post is the testing it does when first powered up, and shows you the attached devices, etc.

I would suggest you check out the pinned topic at the top of this hardware forum, "new computer build problems." going through those steps will help narrow it down to what components are causing the problems (if not outright fix it all up).
let us know what you find from doing those steps, and we can help figure out whats up!

Thanks !! I found the problem... it's because the video card (probably an old one) does not support my LCD monitor. I happen to have a really old monitor and when I tried to plug it in everything went fine. Now that made me amazed on how a monitor can make all the processes stuck there....
