I've tried to get rid of servproc.exe, nail.exe (which goes away for a while then returns), and I'm pulling my hair out here. Please help.

My name is Justin and I will be helping you clean your system. When you said that you had some nasty stuff on here, your weren't kidding! But we can get it cleaned!

Lets get to work!

Step 1 - Downloads

Please download Nailfix from here:

Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save all of these files to your desktop, so we can easily find them.

Step 2 - L2MFIX.exe - Part 1

Double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Step 3 - Nail.exe fix

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

I was unable to do a Ewido run on my computer as it installs a corrupted copy, so I'll have to do without that. I've highlighted the big problem things that I absolutely cannot get rid of. According to my research, rundll32 shouldn't be running on my computer which brings me to the conclusion that it is indeed malware or the like. Thanks for your time!

UH OHHHH...... guess what just happened, look who came back to play. I'll run through the nail.exe removal processes but here is an updated HJT log. I wasn't doing anything and alas it came back which makes me think it's hiding somewhere else in my computer and it respawns after I remove it.

Good Morning.

Lets deal with l2mfix first, then we wil ldeal with nail. Hopefully we can get ewido to work after the l2mfix, since its needed to clean nail.exe, well the easy way at least.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Odd...Nail.exe is gone...How is the computer running?

Computer runs perfectly now.... the only thing left that seems out of place is:

ctfmon.exe.... it hasn't shown up until all of these shinanigans happened, but now it seems to be fine. So if it looks good to you just let me know.

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.

• Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  
• AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  
• SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  
• SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  
• IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  
• CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  
• Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  
• Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  
• Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
