I have strange problems with my graphics card. Whenever I click on a video file, AVI, MPG and such, my screen goes black for a few seconds before the computer will do anything else. This is not just when I try to execute the file, but even if I right click to get properties. Its really annoying the [bleep] out of me.

The problem does not appear with a clean install, but then somewhere down the line it just starts doing it. I am running XP Pro with a GeForce 6600. I have tried the latest NVida drivers but the problem remains.

Has anyone seen this before and found a solution???

TIA

Cal.

Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go. Try cleaning up the drivers. If you installed a new driver and didn't clean out the old one, this could cause a problem. Go to http://www.drivercleaner.net/ and get Driver Cleaner (it is free). Then go to add/remove programs and delete the current video driver. Then boot into safe mode and run Driver Cleaner TWICE, each time deleting all that it finds. Then reboot and install the current driver.
