Sound Blaster Driver Instalation Help

My OS is win ME
my soundcard is Creative Sound Blaster PCI 128.
My computer Manufacturer is Gateway.

I have the driver both from my restoration disk and from the website, but it never installs correctly. When I go to hardware properties for the sound card it states in device status that

"The NTKERN.VXD, MMDEVLDR.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver. To fix this, click update driver to update the device driver."

But doing so never fixes the driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
