HELP!
I have been hit by aurora! uggg...interestingly enough for anyone else who reads this, I was fine til I downloaded LIMEWIRE! and not the free version either... Needless to say I am pretty sure this is where it originated.

Thank goodness I found this place. I am having so many problems. Programs are downloading without my knowledge, and also can't seem to delete them. it is also adding shortcuts to things I don't remember having on my desktop and messing with my IE settings.

I have done the CLEANUP!, downloaded and ran ad-aware SE, CWShredder, and Spybot S&D. Have also downloaded and run EWIDO, ran Trend Housecall, and TDS-3. My Windows is updated. and I have rebooted the system several times.
I still seem to have some files that shouldn't be there..and am very frustrated!! PLEASE save me from hurting my computer! :tazz:

Welcome SandDinTC to Geeks to Go!

You are running HijackThis from the Desktop; please create a new folder for it and move the program into the new folder.

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
Windows AFA Internet Enhancement
LimeWire

Press ‘delete this entry’.
Close HijackThis.

***

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

***

Download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

***

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

***

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

***

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

***

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan.

Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Close Windows Explorer.

***

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Make sure to reboot back to safe mode.

***

Run a scan using Ewido, save the log.

***

Restart your computer in normal mode.

***

Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

***

Please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan and Active Scan.

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press ‘open process manager’
Select the process, press ‘kill process’ (and repeat this if necessary):
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mig42enu.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\kntc.exe

press ‘back’ and 'scan'.

***

Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\jrmula.exe reg_run

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [a005RQM8W] mig42enu.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CAS Client] "C:\Program Files\Cas\Client\casclient.exe"

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

***

Use Windows Explorer to remove these folders:
C:\Program Files\Cas\
C:\Program Files\LimeWire\

Please disable SpybotSD’s protection, as it may hinder the removal of the infection. You can enable it after you're clean.

Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box and/or Uncheck Resident.
Click Allow Change box..

***

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press ‘open process manager’
Select the process, press ‘kill process’ (and repeat this if necessary):
jrmula.exe
press ‘back’ and then 'scan'.

***

Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\jrmula.exe reg_run

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

***

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\ Documents and Settings \Stefanie\ Local Settings \Temp\AutoUpdate0

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\kntc.exe

C:\Documents and Settings\Stefanie\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\HVOQTHS0\popcaploader_v6[1].spl

C:\Documents and Settings\Stefanie\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5\HVOQTHS0\popcaploader_v6[1].spl[PopCapLoader.dll]

C:\Documents and Settings\Stefanie\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\HVOQTHS0\popcaploader_v6[1].spl[popcaploader.inf]

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.dll

C:\WINDOWS\LastGood\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.inf

C:\WINDOWS\system32\apvyg.dat

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jrmula.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\nboqxaq.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\prucykc.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wunvg.dll

For these file, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

Rerun Panda again and post me the log. Also post me a fresh HijackThis log.

Please download Trend Micro™ Anti-Spyware for the Web Utility (by clicking the "Scan and Clean your PC" button).
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click the new icon on your desktop (tmas-web-scan.exe)
  • It will say "Loading TrendMicro definitions".
  • Once the definitions are loaded, the program will appear to close then re-open.
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • After it's done scanning, click "Scan Results"
  • Make sure all items found have a check next to them, then click "Clean Threats Now".
  • Click Exit.
Reboot your computer. In place of the TrendMicro icon will be a text file called "Antispyware.log", please double-click that log and copy the entire contents and paste them here.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Scan local drives for temporary files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

Once it's done, press Close. Reboot the system. This will remove files that were in use during the scan.
Make sure to reboot to safe mode.

***

Use Windows Explorer to remove these folders:
C:\!Submit\
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTING\Stefanie\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp\AutoUpdate0
Close Windows Explorer when you are done.

***

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\Program Files\Aprps\ProxyStub.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.inf
C:\WINDOWS\LastGood\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.inf
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nboqxaq.exe

For these file, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

I recommend you remove KaZaa unless you are running the paid version.

Let me know how things are now.

The page I linked to has alternatives that don't mess up your computer with their program.
Mind you, always be carefull what you open. It's best to scan before using.

--------------

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

    Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

    or

    Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
