:tazz: I got the Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c on my Desktop and I’m not able to remove it.
I don’t know all that much about computers and yesterday spent the whole day running all of the available scans but with not much success. I ran Office Scan, SpyBot, Add Aware and only some parts of the virus got removed, my desktop is not restored and Browser is not functioning properly. Please help me to get rid of the dammed thing and restore my computer to normal operation.

Click on the link to download HiJackThis.exe.
2.) When it pulls up the box (for you to pick a location to save the file), click on the pulldown menu and select "[C:]".
3.) Click on the button to "create new folder" and name the folder HiJackThis
4.) Double click on the folder you just made (to go into the folder) and click "save" on the bottom of the box.
Then double click HijackThis and choose scan and save log.

Post me that log here in this topic ussing the button 'add reply'.

Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {a19ef336-01d4-48e6-926a-fe7e1c747aed} - (no file)

O16 - DPF: {14A3221B-1678-1982-A355-7263B1281987} - ms-its:mhtml:file://C:\foo.mht!http://82.179.170.82....chm::/file.exe

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

You did just great, the HijackThis log looks clean now.

Just be safe, do this for me:

Please go here: Jotti Virus Scan

Click the "browse" button and locate this file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\wininet.dll

Click "Open", then click the "Submit" button. Copy the results and paste them here.

***

If Jotti says the file is infected, also do this:

Copy everything in the code box below and paste it into notepad. Go up to "File > Save As..." and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as wininet.bat on your desktop.
dir %Systemdrive%\wininet.dll /a h /s > files.txt
start notepad files.txt
W9X:
[qoute]dir %Systemdrive%\wininet.dll /a:h /s > files.txt
start notepad files.txt
Double click wininet.bat and when it is ready it will open files.txt
Copy the content of files.txt and paste it here.

I just want to make sure I don't leave you with trouble on your computer.

1. I did the jodi scan on the file specified in your instructions and it was infected. I guess I'm still not off the hoock:

Here is the Jodi Scan report:

ninet.dll
Status: INFECTED/MALWARE
MD5 cb9db0aa1c3352d85e6f13e66171fdb0
Packers detected: -
Scanner results
AntiVir Found nothing
ArcaVir Found Trojan.Oleadm.Callgate
Avast Found nothing
AVG Antivirus Found nothing
BitDefender Found nothing
ClamAV Found nothing
Dr.Web Found Trojan.DownLoader.2636
F-Prot Antivirus Found W32/Oleadm.A.unknown?
Fortinet Found W32/Nsag.A
Kaspersky Anti-Virus Found Virus.Win32.Nsag.a
NOD32 Found Win32/Oleloa.A
Norman Virus Control Found nothing
UNA Found Win32.Nsag.a
VBA32 Found Virus.Win32.Nsag.a

2. Had a bit of touble with the 2 nd part of instructions though.
I copied the following into a new notepad doc.
dir %Systemdrive%\wininet.dll /a h /s > files.txt
start notepad files.txt
W9X:
[qoute]dir %Systemdrive%\wininet.dll /a:h /s > files.txt

Saved it on my desk top

It takes a while to created that file. Are you sure that all the info it produced?

Then please update to SP2 now.
apply the update, reboot and let wininet.bat run again.
Also have wininet.dll scanned at Jotti's again.

EDIT:
As there has been no reply from the original poster for more than two weeks this topic is now closed.

If you are the original poster and still need assistance, please send me a PM.
