Hello Travbank,

There are still a couple of items that I am concerned about on your machine.

1.Please run either one of these uninstallers on your machine to rid your computer of Lop.
If not there then use these two uninstallers:
http://lop.com/new_uninstall.exe
http://lop.com/toolbar_uninstall.exe

Sometimes the lop.com site doesn't work. Here's a mirror site for both the toolbar uninstaller and the main uninstaller.
http://members.roger...r_uninstall.exe
http://members.roger...w_uninstall.exe

2. Go to Start>Search and at the top select Tools>Folder Options
Select the View tab
Display the contents of system folders
Show hidden files and folders
Uncheck: Hide protected operating system files
Click on Apply.
Next go to the side of the Search box and select All files and folders. Go down to More advanced options.
Be sure the first three boxes are selected:
Search System folders
Search Hidden Files and folders
Search SubFolders

This will allow you to see the file dwcrnt.exe.

3. Then boot your computer into safe mode and rerun Ewido scan allowing it to delete all items found this time. It looks as though you didn't allow it to completely clean the files that were found.

4. You will have to search for these files below manually by going to start>search>files and folders>then typing in the name of the file below then deleting it if present.
dwcrnt.exe

5. Then reboot your computer into normal mode and copy the code below to a notepad and save it to your desktop as remove.reg.

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\dwcrnt]

Then find the remove.reg on your desktop and double click it allowing it to merge into your registry.

Please reboot your computer now.

Then please run a new hijack this scan and paste the results of this and the ewido scan in your next reply.

Thank you,

Snickets

Hello Snickets,

I tried using these two uninstallers:
http://lop.com/new_uninstall.exe
http://lop.com/toolbar_uninstall.exe

but it came up your current security settings do not allow to download this

Then i tried to the mirror sites:
http://members.roger...r_uninstall.exe
http://members.roger...w_uninstall.exe

and it said at the websites:
Web sites previously located at http://members.rogers.com/ are no longer accessible at this location

i searched for dwcrnt.exe but i couldn't find it

i did merge the code into my registry

Hello Travbank,

Step 1-

1.Download Process Explorer from HERE

Run Process Explorer and find the following process in the list of Processes:

dwcrnt.exe

Select the process and click Process > Suspend.

Leave Process Explorer running with the process suspended the whole time! Do NOT close it - even when your system is rebooting!

Then run HijackThis. Click Config > Misc Tools > Delete a file on reboot...
In the explorer Window select the file C:\WINDOWS\q7264816_disk.dll

When prompted if you want to reboot click YES

After the reboot check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dwcrnt.exe] dwcrnt.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: style2 - C:\WINDOWS\q7264816_disk.dll (file missing)

Rescan with HiJackThis and post the new log.

Thank you,

Snickets

Hello Travbank,

Yes your log is looking alot better now, here are some suggestions to speed up the computer and one other line that will need to be fixed.

Run HijackThis scan only and place a check beside each of the following.
O2 - BHO: Name - {069AB7FF-85C8-49CE-B6C1-ADFDA1A63F3B} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msvaj.dll (file missing)

Optional Removals-
Fixing them here will not prevent you from opening them manually as needed. Your choice to fix based on your needs:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMan] SOUNDMAN.EXE
(Description: System Tray icon for the Realtek AC97 Audio Sound Manager for AC97 onboard audio. Available via Start -> Settings-> Control Panel. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources. )

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched.exe
(Description: Sun Java update scheduler. Checks for updates. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] \"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe\" -osboot
(Description: RealPlayer scheduler. Completely unnecessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
(Description: Microsoft Office Startup Assistant. This program loads some Microsoft Office components into memory, even if you're not currently using MS Office. Removing this unnecessary program will free up a considerable amount of system resources. )

After checking these entries CLOSE ALL open windows [browsers and programs] EXCEPT HijackThis and click "Fix Checked."

Please Reboot your computer after this is finished.

Then once back in normal mode please rescan with hijack this and post the results back in here for me to review.

Thank you,

Snickets

Hello Travbank,

Good Job your log looks clean!!!

There are just a couple steps to take in fixing your computer.

1.After something like this it is a good idea to purge the Restore Points and start fresh.

To flush the XP System Restore Points:
(Using XP, you must be logged in as Administrator to do this.)

Go to Start>Run and type msconfig Press enter.
When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings Link on the left.
Check the box labeled Turn Off System Restore.

Reboot. Go back in and turn System Restore ON. A new Restore Point will be created.

2.Go to Start>Search and at the top select Tools>Folder Options
Select the View tab
Check the following:
Do not Show hidden files and folders
Hide protected operating system files
Click on Apply.
Close out the search window.

After this is complete here are some tips to ensure that your computer stays clean in the future:
[*]Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
  • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.
    • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
    • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
    • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
    • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
    • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
    • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
    • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
[*]Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.
See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:
Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources
[*]Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
[*]Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Understanding and Using Firewalls
[*]Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
[*]Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware
[*]Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
[/list]Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Thank you for using GeekstoGo to clean your computer!!!
