Hi,

I have XP Professional, and everytime I try to boot the following msg comes up:

Generic Hose Process Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. Tell Microsoft.....

Error Signature SzAppName: SVChost.exe
SzModVe 4.3.1.0

THen NT/Authority\System Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service Termination

I have booted into Safe Mode - ran McAffe (it only found a trojan and cleaned it)
But I still get the error.

It also creates C:\Documents\Theresa\Local1\Temp\WER6.tmp.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp

I don't have internet access on it yet, as this only started when I was trying to add a DSL modem (which it won't let me do now)

Any thoughts?

uhh, RPC is needed for just about every feature of windows XP, if it dosn't work. Your basicly back to windows 3.1... or earlier. Best bet, IMO would be to do a repair on windows through the XP CD, since its a newley formated PC shouldn't be much of a loss if at all.

If the modem install fails again, might want to contact the mfg of the modem/software and find out if they have any XP friendly drivers since its crashing your system.
