For some reason the safely remove hardware icon popped up in regards to my CD and DVD drive and I accidently clicked "stop", now the drives stopped working and i cannot get them started again. I tried add hardware, but it's not reading it and i looked at the device manager, but its not there either. Please help!

You might try reinstalling the chipset drivers for the IDE bus since it is the chipset that has to recognize the drives. You can probably do that in Device Manager. Many times updated drivers are available on the web from the .mfrs of the board or chipset..

Are the devices still showing in My Computer ?
If so right click on the drive to open the Properties Window, click on the Hardware tab, at the bottom of this window : Device Usage, click the down arrow and select Use this device. Click OK then Apply.

There may still be a problem with the chipset, open Device Manaager and expand Hard Disk Controller and try reintalling drivers. Also there may be a setting in BIOS which could have changed.

This is one of those "round up the usual suspects" situations, you just have to try stuff till you find what works.

there are no "hard drive controllers" in my device manager, all trace of a CD-ROM Drive are missing, ive searched for new hardware or hardware changes and found nothing, my DVD drive will open, but will not read anything and my CD-ROM drive will not open at all, if the safely remove hardware window gives the option to "Stop" shouldnt there be a way to reverse that initial action?
