Hi,
I think i downloaded the Dr. Watson's postmortem debugger virus off an e-mail by accident. I already have Adaware, Norton Antivirus, spy sweeper, spybot search and destroy and have run all of them. As soon as I realized what I had done I restarted my computer, ending the download. When it rebooted I noticed my computer was going very slowly, I couldnt even open the start menu to run an antivirus program, then the Dr. Watson's postmortem debugger message popped up. I couldnt do anything at all except go to task manager. So I went to processes and ended a program that looked like waston debugger or something. My computer started working better and I could go onto the internet to research whatever I had downloaded. And I came here. I did a Hijack This scan (below). We have also been having a problem with a popup from internet explorer. About every hour a blue windows box from internet explorer says Click YES to complete your download. I dont have any downloads going or anythingetc. It is very annoying and I would like to stop it. However, it started before the virus.

There are quite a few programs available that offer protection features to help keep a computer from getting infected. While this is normally a helpful feature, it can keep a victim from making the changes necessary to clean their comptuer. Please read the following and uninstall or disable those that apply to your machine.

These programs need to be uninstalled

AdWatch

These programs can just be disabled

Microsoft Antispyware
TeaTimer
SpySweeper
Win Patrol
Spyware Guard
PSGuard
Pestpatrol
Regrun
Diamonds Process controller

Please go to add/remove programs and remove viewpoint manager.

Go HERE and follow directions to remove TV/Media

Open task manager (ctrl>>alt>>delete) and stop this process if running:

C:\WINDOWS\lyybk.exe

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

:\WINDOWS\lyybk.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Remove_spyware.exe
C:\Program Files\websearch
mad.dll




Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you


Reboot and run hijack this again. If Mad.dll is still there, follow these directions:

Click on this link http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.zip to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
In the 'Paste Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mad.dll


Check the option for "Delete on Reboot". Click the button with the red circle with a white X in it. Click 'yes'. When asked to reboot choose 'yes'.
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.


Step 2
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mad.dll

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Reboot and post a new log.

Ok I tried to do all of that. When i was doing the first step, checking and then fixing with Hijack This it ran into two problems.
The first thing i got was
An unexpected error has occureed at procedure: mod backup_makebackup (SItem=020-appinit_dlls:mad.dll)
error #5 - invalid procedure call or argument

second error:

It stopped and said Error # 52 (Bad File name or number) in sub get long path (?.exe.)

Then I could not find this one:

I did everything, making sure there were no hidden files etc. and I could not find
C:\Program Files\websearch
mad.dll

so i could not delete it.
