When i am playing online games every couple hours or if i lag up real bad my internet just completely crashes. All i can do is hold my power button and reboot my computer and all would be fine. If i just go to start -> shutdown, it would ask me if i should End Task AXTimer. is this thing the problem that is giving my computer frequent internet crashes? if so what could be done and how could i get rid of it? i use to think it was my internet connections problem but all the cables and switches were on perfectly. So i have come to the conclusion that i must have a virus or spyware that is crashing my internet.

I would advise to uninstall:
ViewPoint manager
under Add/Remove Software

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

O9 - Extra button: 50 FREE MP3s! - {686C970F-1D7D-4469-85D1-4B35763B56CC} - http://www.emusic.com?fref=149133 (file missing)

Reboot and download and unzip to one folder:
http://metallica.gee...com/findlop.zip

Inside the folder find findlop.bat

Doubleclick it and it will create the file C:\findlop.txt
Find that file and copy the content into your next post.

i could not find any files relating to AXTimer. I dont know if this may be the problem but when i run the Trend Mictro free internet scan i always come up with some virus names. but when i do a Norton Antivirus scan i come up with nothing. Could this be a networking problem? Pretty much when i play a game and get disconnected my whole internet crashes and the internet driver turns into "disabled" mode. If i click on Internet Explorer or anything relating with the internet nothing pop up and my computer is half frozen...

  • Download the Registry Search Tool.
  • Unzip the contents of RegSrch.zip to a convenient location.
  • Double-click on RegSrch.vbs.
  • If you have an anti-virus installed it might prompt you about a running script. Please ignore this warning and allow the script to run.
  • In the "Enter search string (case insensitive) and click OK..." box paste this string:
    • AXTimer
  • Click "OK" to search the registry for that string.
  • Wait for a few minutes while it completes the search.
  • Click "OK" to open the results in WordPad.
  • Copy and paste the entire results into your next post.

This is what i got from your program ::

REGEDIT4
; RegSrch.vbs © Bill James

; Registry search results for string "AXTimer" 7/14/2005 10:55:22 PM

; NOTE: This file will be deleted when you close WordPad.
; You must manually save this file to a new location if you want to refer to it again later.
; (If you save the file with a .reg extension, you can use it to restore any Registry changes you make to these values.)

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3396056658-2368246247-1881431200-1007\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs]

"000"="AXTimer"

Now when i get disconnected and i try to shutodown get closing "Hidden Fax Window" or end task etc. I could not find anything about Hidden Fax Window with the script u gave me.

I found a couple of threads on other boards regarding AXTimer issues.
One for problems AOL, one for a Dell computer. Both were resolved after removing ViewPoint manager.

Can you delete this folder if it is still there:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager

This is quite interesting. I am pretty sure i do not get AXTimer anymore but my problem still exists. Sometimes i would get a Closing HiddenFaxWindow program. Also i have uninstalled my other networking driver that was always unplugged. I do not know why i even have that driver on my computer =\. Now i am a bit confused if this problem is my computers (having virus's) or my internet companys (bad connection)

OK. So the only problem left is the connection that crashes when you are playing online?

I'll need to know a few more things if possible:
- Does it also happen if you do other things online?
Maybe the problem is not the connection but the game
- Is there any regularity in the time it takes up to a crash?
Could a buffer or temp file overflow?
- You stated the computer is unusable after it happens. Did you look at the Event Log for any entries coinciding with such a crash?
Maybe something usefull can be found in there

Usually if i am just surfing the net or using my computer to watch movies it would be fine. It pretty much can crash at any moment. Sometimes when i ALT+F4 out of the game and immediatly try to open the program back up, it lags and just freezes. If i press CTRL+ALT+DEL nothing pops up so i have to reboot. Im not sure how to look at the event log. But it seems like it takes up to much of my computer usuage and just overflows or something. Although playing a simple online game shouldnt be "too" much for my computer. It 1G Memory and 3.0 GhZ so it should be easy to run it.

While i am playing a game sometimes everyone stops moving instantly. At that moment i already know its dead so i just hold my power button =o.

Also, this problem only exists on my computer in my room. Even though my brothers computer is alot Slower it rarely gets disconnected. And we have the same internet connection but different Adapter (PC PORT)

Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, then click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. Or, open the MMC containing the Event Viewer snap-in.

In the console tree, click Event Viewer.
The Application, Security, and System logs are displayed in the Event Viewer window.

Check if you can find any entries coinciding with a crash and let me know what the say.

Here are some Error/Warning logs that i get atleast more than once.

I get alot of erros in the System section with network and ip errors.

Application Tab :

- Faulting application winamp.exe, version 5.0.0.9, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00011e58.

- Windows saved user DFNH7B41\Ray Tong registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.
This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

- Updates to the IIS metabase were aborted because IIS is either not installed or is disabled on this machine. To configure ASP.NET to run in IIS, please install or enable IIS and re-register ASP.NET using aspnet_regiis.exe /i.

System Tab :

- The Network Address Translator (NAT) was unable to request an operation of the kernel-mode translation module. This may indicate misconfiguration, insufficient resources, or an internal error. The data is the error code.

- Your computer has lost the lease to its IP address 172.16.1.33 on the Network Card with network address 00D09E48970E.

- (I get this one stacked like 8 times a day)

Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 00D09E48970E. The following error occurred:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

I have quite alot more but these are the ones that keep repeating.

Hope this helps.

IMO these are the ones we need to look at:

http://www.eventid.n...ce=Dhcp&phase=1

This one:

The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server

is normally triggered by another computer in the same network connecting to a switch or router and "stealing" your address.
Let me know if that is what possibly could be happening.

Regards.
