I've run multiple anti-malware programs multiple times but my laptop still seems to run slowly after a short while of being on. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Thanks once again.

Hi Mike and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

I noticed that your HiJackthis.exe is located on your desktop, make sure to save HijackThis in its own folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This is very important, so HiJackThis can save backups!

I also noticed that you have two anti virus programs running on your computer. This will not give you more security, in fact it just might do the opposite. Anti-Virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

If you choose to install more than one Anti-Virus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

There are basically two types of these programs:
On-Access and On-Demand

On-Access Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that run in the background all the time the PC is turned on and running. The main function of an On-Access scanner is to monitor activity on your machine.

On-Demand Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that only run when you ask them to.
Such as:
Online Scans and scanners that run on your machine but are not actively scanning your machine.

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.
We will use this program later.

THE FIX

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

5. Open HiJack and do a scan.

6. Put a Check next to the following items:

Thank you! My laptop does seem faster so far.

Unfortunately I was unable to run Activescan. I tried using it in my current browser (Opera) but it does not support ActiveX controls. I then tried using Mozilla Firefox, but was told it was only compatible with Internet Explorer. Upon trying Internet Explorer, the browser froze up when I told it to install the required ActiveX control. I also installed AOL Explorer as a final attempt but that also froze up upon telling it to install the ActiveX control.

Here's my HijackThis log.

Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.

When performing the scan, there was no "Clean" option so I selected "Remove", I'm assuming that's what I should have done as it appears to have attempted to clean the files.

Thank you once again.

C:\Program Files\wwrxsour

Download rkfiles http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip and unzip the contents to a new folder on your desktop

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

REBOOT TO SAFE MODE. This tool MUST be run in safe mode!

Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\Program Files\wwrxsour

Once in safe mode, double click rkfiles.bat file to run it. It will scan for a while, so please be patient. Wait until the DOS window closes. The log file will be C:\log.txt

Reboot back to normal mode and post the contents of log.txt in your next post.

I also need you yo uninstall MessengerPlus3.

If you insist on using "Messenger Plus 3" then you can reinstall it once your PC is clean, only without the "Sponsor Software"

Note: Sponsor Software = C2Media\LOP (parasite)

This is not a Microsoft or MSN product! Be aware that any update to "Messenger Plus" will cause the program to prompt you to install the "Sponsor Software".

Thanks,

Excal

Unfortunately before I saw your second post regarding Messenger Plus 3, I had already begun work on your previous post, I have uninstalled it. Will this require me to obtain and post another rkfiles log?

Also, upon trying to delete "C:\Program Files\wwrxsour" I was given the error message "Cannot delete b0xDI8BM.dll:access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use."

"C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Desktop

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FILES FOUND BY THIS METHOD ARE NOT BAD FILES, THERE MIGHT BE LEGIT FILES LISTED AND PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHILE FIXING. IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT IT IS LEAVE THEM ALONE.

Please download the Killbox.

Please run Killbox.
  • Select "Delete on Reboot".
  • Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

    C:\Program Files\wwrxsour\b0xDI8BM.dll
    C:\Program Files\wwrxsour\b0xDI8BM.exe
    C:\Program Files\wwrxsour\cnml.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\winik.sys

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  • Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..
  • Let the system reboot.
