My new Dell 8400, bought in Jan 2005 with lots of processing power, one big hard drive 400GB, CD RW and DVD, NTFS, WIndows XP, Pentium 4 3.4GHz, service pack 2, NVIDIA GEFORCE 6800, with video codec for tv does not play MP3 files very well. They skip badly when played on any of the media players: Windows Media player, Winamp, jukebox, etc. Since i am used to music playing normally, and i use music a lot, this is not good. I tried changing buffering on winamp and had some success but the skipping seems to come back no matter what i change and this isnt normal anyway for a new computer. I do tend to use other windows with music playing, but music skips even if i close all other windows. I heard that the processor is being overloaded but how do i fix this? or the buffering isnt right. It does tend to be worse with more things going on and scrolling of mouse but since i have not seen this in my older , slower pc's i dont know what to do? The computer came with the sound not working and we reloaded soundblaster drivers. Dell doesnt have any more help. Music has not worked since i got the pc new. Please HELP.

Do you have an onboard soundcard or not? If you have a seperate soundcard, you could try removing it from your device manager and then turn off the comp and reseat your soundcard. turn your comp bback on and let windows find a driver for it.

thanks, I was told to remove the drivers of soundblaster by Dell and we did. and reloaded the drivers from the CD that came with pc. I'm thinking it might be processor hog somewhere, maybe the video thing but i really dont know. thanks
