I have a window 98 computer. Somehow, I removed the the universal serial bus contoller in device manager. Now my brother all-in-one printer won't work. I get a warning on my screen to make sure that the printer cable is connected from printer to computer. I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer several times yet to no avail. Also, ethernet modem port stopped working which shut down my internet as well. Can I get any help from someone, I am very new in trying to work on computers.
Thanks, BobButler

if you have the disk try reinstalling windows note that this will format the harddrive erasing all data so make back up cd's.

Is plug and play enabled in the BIOS. If you reboot it should dectect the controller and prompt you for the driver.

Here's a link on how to get into the BIOS. It should also say which key to press as you boot up....

Macten, I check the bios for plug and play and this is what I found:

PnP/PCI Configurations
PnP OS Installed Yes
Reset Configuration Data disabled
Resources Controlled by auto(ESCD)
XIRQ Resources press enter
PCI/VGA Palette Snoop Enabled
Assign IRQ for VGA enabled
Assigned IRQ for USB enabled

And also in the VIA Onchip PCI Device I have these settings:
AC (& Audio auto
MC 97 Modem auto
OnChip LAN disabled
OBoard LAN Boot ROM disabled
OnChip USB Controller disabled
USB Keyboard support disabled
USB Mouse Support disabled
Please let me know what to do from this, It seems lithose settings can not be changed. Thanks again.

are you saying you can't change the setting for usb? Can you navigate to it or is it completely inaccessible? try turning "assign irq to usb " off and see if that changes anything. you could also try resetting to defaults.... there should be a setting in there somewhere either safe defaults, factory defaults, or some such. HOWEVER first make sure to make a note of where things are set so you can put them back if need be.

I disconnected the computer and brought it home. Now I can't get the keyboard or mouse to work. Consequently I can't get into any program or bios. How can I get in safe mode when the keyboard won't even work on the computer. Please help me if you can. Thanks!!
