I have been having problems with my computer. I've researched what the different problems are and I don't know how to get rid of the few that are left. The tools on your website helped tremendously. Thank you!

Hello kris74745 and welcome to Geeks To Go. :tazz:

I am UKBiker and will be helping you with this log.

Lets start out with some general scans and see if we cant clean things up a little.

+++++ Step 1 +++++

Please download Ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program. If you already have Ewido, please update it and run the scans as below
  • Install Ewido security suite
  • Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
+++++ Step 2 +++++

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

+++++ Step 3 +++++

After that, I will need to see two different logs from HiJackThis. The first is the normal log like you posted here. To get the other one, follow these directions.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Post back with those logs and we can continue from there.

If you have recieved help elsewhere or no longer need our assistance, please let us know.

I did get rid of Nail.exe. I followed another post, and it is finally gone! I don't know what to do with the other problems. Also, my technician put a router on my computer. Do I really need that? I only have one computer.

Thank you,

Hi There ;)

I got to say that you are doing a great job of cleaning this up on your own! :tazz: This log is much better than the one that you originally posted. There are still a few things that need to go though, so let me have a good look through it and i will post the fix later this evening (its 7;20 pm in the UK). In the meantime, there are a couple of applications that you are running that I am not too familiar with, so could you please tell me what you can about the following apps?

Coca Cola Seasons
Coke 6
Internet Worm Protection
RelevantKnowledge
Screensavers Installer
SPBBC
SymNet

You also asked about Etomi. I am seeking advice on this file sharing application as to its status and will advise you later when I have more Information.

Hello!

I found SPBBC service using winpatrol. I listed what I found below. I think the SymNet has something to do with Symantec and Norton Antivirus files. It pulls up live updates I believe. I cannot find anything about RelevantKnowledge. I found something about Internet Worm Protection and listed it below. I put a smiley face beside the words. The Coke and Coca-cola files are screensavers. The screensavers installer came with the files I believe. I don't use them anymore.

Thank you for your assistance.

Kristi

Hi there Kris74745 :tazz:

Ok, I have found some information on eTomi (thanks Rawe), and I would advise you MOST strongly to remove it and unsusbscribe from their service. You may wish to unsubscribe from it before you continue with the fix below as their requirements for unsubscription may need you to use the application to do so. The fix as posted below will remove the application.

On with the Fix

please ensure that your system is set so as to show all hidden and system files.

Please run HijackThis, click Scan, and checkmark against these entries if they are there:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OSS] C:\windows\system32\rlvknlg.exe -boot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AUNPS2] RUNDLL32 AUNPS2.DLL,_Run@16

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan and have it fix whatever it finds. Post the log from the scan here for me at the end of this fix.

Go to Add/remove programmes in Control Panel and remove these programmes if they are there

Coca Cola Seasons
Coke 6
e Tomi pro
RelevantKnowledge
Screensavers Installer

Using windows explorer, please delete the following folders if they are there

C:\Program Files\Coca Cola Seasons
C:\Program Files\Coke 6
C:\Program Files\e Tomi pro
C:\Program Files\RelevantKnowledge
C:\Program Files\Screensavers Installer

Using Windows Explorer, please delete the following files if they are there

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rlvknlg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\AUNPS2.DLL

InstallAPS.exe<<<<<you will have to search for this one, it may not be there.

Restart your computer in normal mode

Finally, open Internet Options from the Control Panel and click the ‘Certificates’ button on the ‘Content’ tab. Look for ‘Netsetter'and/or‘MarketScore’and/orRelevantKnowledge in the list in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities tab, select them and remove them if they are there.

Restart your computer in normal mode then please rescan with HJT and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Good Luck

Hi UKBiker! I couldn't find the InstallAPS.exe file. I also can't remove the Coke 6 screensaver file. It gives a message that the install.log could not be opened. I tried in safe mode and normal. Ewido didn't find anything. Here is the new Hijack logfile:

Hi there Kris74745 :help:

Congratulations , your log is clean :tazz: ;) ;)

If you fins a file on your PC and need an independant check as to whether it is infected, this can be done at Jotti

Just a general clean up now and we are done

Now you have to clean out your temporary files and flush your restore points:
  • Start | Run | type cleanmgr | OK
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Click "OK" to remove them.
  • Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion.
Flush System Restore.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Quarantined items found by your AV and AT scanners can now be deleted.

P2P Alternative Applications.

Here is a link that will give you information about safer alternetives to e Tomi.

P2P

So now that your PC is clean, how do you keep it that way?

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer alternatives available. ConsiderFirefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and Spyware Aid's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

Glad to have been of help

UKBiker,

I still have some viruses that show up with Panda scan, but not with Ewido or Norton. Do you have any suggestions? Here is the Panda file:

Incident Status Location

Adware:Adware/MyWay No disinfected C:\Program Files\MyWay
Adware:Adware/DelFinMedia No disinfected Windows Registry
Adware:Adware/Twain-Tech No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys
Adware:Adware/Comet No disinfected C:\OLD\OLD\WINDOWS\INF\CC_43.inf

Hiya kris74745 :tazz:

I think that these are just fragments left over from the cleaning we have done.
What I would suggest is that you do the following in Safe Mode with your system set to show all hidden and system files.

1. Use Windows Explorer and see if this folder exists, if it does, delete the whole folder, if it isnt there, great!

C:\Program Files\MyWay

2. Run Adaware in safe mode and have it do a full system scan, delete everything it finds.

3. I am not sure what this path is, C:\OLD\OLD\WINDOWS\INF\CC_43.inf , is this an old backup or something?

I will do some research on the other entries but let me know how you get on.

Hello UKBiker! I found and deleted MyWay. I did see another suspicious file with the name of pss and it will not go away. It is in the WINDOWS folder. Also, I am not sure about the CC_43 file. I right clicked on it for properties, and it says it is setup information, and it opens with Notepad. I didn't open it though. It also isn't very big. There is another one that is CC_43.PNF and it is precompiled setup information. Just in case you need to know, none of these programs are in add/remove programs. Talk to ya' soon! Ad-Aware didn't find anything critical. Good night for me and good morning to you!

Thanks,

Kristi

Hey there! The PC is running a lot better. The only problem I have noticed are a few random pop-ups that always are from castlemedia. I don't know if they are still popping up since I deleted MyWay. I will check MyWay with Panda again to make sure it is gone. I will do that as soon as I get home from class. Did you ever find out if I really needed a router? I only have one computer, and I am not sure about the person who used to work on our computer. There were some old viruses on there that were supposed to be fixed. Anyway, I will run Panda again, and I will talk to you soon!

Thank you!
