Hi,
have a problem with malware and trojans. My computer was running v slow and new start up screens started to appear. Your sight looked v helpful so thought i'd give it a go.
I've worked through the starter instructions and have run Adaware, spybot etc. Tried TDS-3 trojan remover but found too complex for my idiot level computer skills.

Problems remain:
Smitfraud - windows background is a screen saying computer has infection with "Trojan-spy Smitfraud" and my "system can't function in normal mode". What is this and how do I get rid of it?
Bloodhound - when Norton functioning I get repeated pop-ups saying I have infection with bloodhound.w32. Constantly appears, interferes with everything. As soon as you click "ok" it appears again. Have run Norton repeatedly. Why can't norton get rid of it?
I think I have got rid of topantispyware, but clicksearchclick remains a nuisance and occasionally I am redirected to it.
Everything still runs reaaaally slow

Here is my HijackThis log. What do you think?

Hi benny boy. Welcome to GTG. :tazz:

There are quite a few programs available that offer protection features to help keep a computer from getting infected. While this is normally a helpful feature, it can keep a victim from making the changes necessary to clean their comptuer. Please read the following and uninstall or disable those that apply to your machine.

These programs need to be uninstalled

AdWatch

These programs can just be disabled

Microsoft Antispyware
TeaTimer
SpySweeper
Win Patrol
Spyware Guard
PSGuard
Pestpatrol
Regrun
Diamonds Process controller

Please uninstall the following via add/remove programs:

AdwareFilter<<not a good program

REBOOT!!

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

===================================================

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Thankyou coachwife6.
Sorry for the delay in replying but didnt get chance to finish fixing things 'til last night. System running much faster and it looks as though Smitfraud, bloodhound, and clicksearchclick are no more.

Here is the HJT log and the Ewido log. Do things look clean? If so should I download Windows SP2? Any other tips?

Do you have spy assassin any more? I see ewido attacked it. :tazz: If so, get rid of it. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall it.

Run hijack this and put a check mark here (using previous instructions)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {1028F737-81E7-452B-A860-E50CAD90A08C} - (no file)

If everything is running well, I would like you to reset new restore points. Here are the instructions.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
