Hi RickMath,

I read your other topics and saw you already tried an exe-fix and lnk-fix
Which ones where that please?

And can you give me some more information on how and when this started?

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O9 - Extra button: 50 FREE MP3s! - {686C970F-1D7D-4469-85D1-4B35763B56CC} - http://www.emusic.com?fref=149133 (file missing)

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {237AA178-C3BC-4f67-A8BB-D8BC14BA0B89} - C:\WINDOWS\something.dll (file missing) (HKCU)

Metallica

Thanks so much for your reply. Finally someone is helping.

The files that I tried were
xp_exe_fix.reg and linkfile_fix.reg

I fixed the keys that you recommended and here is the HJT log after that.

Please further advise.

You are GREAT!!!

Unfortunately that did not do it. I have attached another HJT log after I ran exefix08.

Also, some of the running processes indicated do not seem to show up on the task bar for example ups, norton autoprotect and explorer. Just thought this might also help.

Thanks for sticking with me.

Also, some of the running processes indicated do not seem to show up on the task bar for example ups, norton autoprotect and explorer. Just thought this might also help.

Can you download and install UnHackMe from: http://www.greatis.com/unhackme/

Let me know if it finds anything.

It shouldn't matter too much whether AdWatch is running.

The results said that there was an
invisible software service found
it is suspicious to the trojan class

\system\currentcontrolset\services
Type 16 reg_dword
Start 2 reg_dword
Error control 0 reg_dword
Image Path c:\windows\hxdef100.exe reg_expand_sz
Display Name hxd service 100 reg_hz
Object Name Local Syswtem reg_hz
Description Powerful NT rootkit reg_hz

What do I do next? there were buttons to delte file at next reboot, stop service and delete key. I exited the program and took no action until I hear from you.

Thanks!!! :tazz:

Well I went ahead and ran the unhackme exe and clicked the stop button. It said it removed the trojan and restarted my computer. No change sitll the same problem. BTW when I start up there are several windows that appear that say the the files cannot be found such as those under key 04.

Here is the HJT log after running unhackme. Do you want me to run anything else?

Thanks. Last year it took over a week but someone from your group and I finally go iit together and ridded me of another trojan.

What next? Thanks agin for your help. I am patiently waign to attack this so I do not have to install a new hard drive and operating system.

It is a rootkit called Hacker Defender.

In HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > delete a file on reboot
Choose this file:
c:\windows\HXDEF100.INI

Let the computer reboot and post a new HijackThis log.
Without the ini file the hidden elemenst should show up.

When I click check me now it says that it's alright. No Trojans found. I can't see the hxdex files in my computer.

What next?

Again, thanks for working on this with me.

RE. - my last post.

I guess I need to clarify. I ran unhackme last night and it found it. I clicked stop and now when I run it nothing is found. The problems still persists. Do you need another HJT log?
