When you insert a smiley with your text, the above text rises above the text with the smiley because the smiley is to big. Is there any way to make the smileys shorter?

How much it affects the line spacing depends on the smiley, but unless you want emoticons the same size as text, there's really no way to change it.

Couldn't you just open the smiley images with Adobe Photoshop or Windows Paintshop and decrease the image sizes?

I do appreciate the suggestion, but it's not feasible. You want emoticons this size? -> smile.png

That's 10 pixels, same as the text.
