Hey there..yesterday I got plauged with the bloodhound virus and then spysherriff, after removing them inthe suggested way... my computer started running a little sluggish... to boot up to the Internet Explorer and when I see the windows page when starting up..are times when it is especially sluggish..this computer is pretty much brand new, 1gig..and is full of power and I hardly have any programs and a few startup programs...so I am a bit boggled. Any suggestions and a scan though my logfile to see if there is anything out of the ordinary would be soooo appreciated! This has been really upsetting me.

Thanks.. I went to that site and did everything..it took care of the hidden problems..the only thing that's still happening is when it starts up..it takes a while ..it'll be on the windows screen for a while -- I only have a few things in my startup ... anything I can try? Thanks a bunch!

Thanks so much guys for all your help! I know we can figure this out Hopefully! I deleted paytime.... what's a prefech folder? How do I delete it's contents?
Here is my updated log--- It definately is my startup, which takes forever as well when I want to get into Internet Explorer, it takes forever at times to get it... this never happened before all this spy stuff invaded my computer yesterday. It is so frustrating.

Malware is handled in the other forum...we do not remove it in this forum. I only pointed that out as an example that you are still having malware issues.

The prefetch folder is not really the issue here....it is a place windows stores information that it uses during defragmentation to properly order your software so windows loads better, but it is not something you need to be concerned with -- it functions automatically.

Your computer has a lot of programs that are starting with start up despite it's newness.

Symantec's Norton features a lot of features and they take time to load. I see printer programs, scanner programs, keyboard,videocard and digital memory programs....

these all take time....

The one thing on there I am not familiar with is the computer remote control software from Prismxl...who installed that and why?

The prefetch is supposed to make your computer run faster I found this on another site:

"Windows XP Professional monitors the files that are used when the computer starts and when you start applications. By monitoring these files, Windows XP Professional can prefetch them. Prefetching data is the process whereby data that is expected to be requested is read ahead into the cache. Prefetching boot files and applications decreases the time needed to start Windows XP Professional and start applications."
The problem is it doesn't work right.

The prefetch folder is C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch delete everything in there then set the registry to only prefetch boot up by using the info below.


[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.

Setting for Value Data: [0 = Disabled / 1 = Application Launch Prefetch / 2 = Boot Prefetch / 3 = Prefetch All]


Exit Registry and Reboot

This should help, also some of the spyware out there put files in here this is the easiest way to make sure you remove those files
