Tom,

here's a new silent runner log. FYI, there are still several icons on my desktop that shouldn't be there, online dating, gambling, antispyware type stuff. I'm assuming I can get them off once we solve the problem, but I'm starting to wonder if they need to be removed IN ORDER to solve the problem. thanks for your continued help. here's the log:

Hi Andy!

Please download the Killbox.

Please run Killbox.
  • Select "Delete on Reboot".
  • Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmeon.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\yaemu.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  • Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

    If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..
  • Let the system reboot.
Post another silentrunners please.

I'm not sure if this worked. Killbox wouldn't allow c-control, so I copy/pasted each one in individually. Then it did not reboot on it's own, I had to restart the computer. Here's a new Silent Runner log. Let me know if I need to re-try the killbox:

Try it this way:
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
  • Navigate to this file - C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmdak.exe
  • Double click on that file.
  • HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "no".

    Then do the same for this one, but hit yes when it asks you to reboot.

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\yaemu.exe

Wow, the files look like they are gone!!!

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg (make sure that Save as Type is set at "All Files") on your Desktop. Ensure there is no space at above REGEDIT4.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"dmdak.exe"=-
"yaemu.exe"=-

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Reboot and post me a fresh HiJackthis log and another silentrunners.

Thanks,

:tazz:

After doing that above, can you do this also.

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme4.reg (make sure that Save as Type is set at "All Files") on your Desktop. Ensure there is no space at above REGEDIT 4.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoActiveDesktop"=-

Locate fixme4.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Thanks,

Tom

Here's the new HJT log. I fixed the 017's and deleted hookdump in safe mode but did not follow your most recent post yet. Didn't see it til now. Do I need to do the regedit in safe mode?

Lets get your desktop back to normal while I try to figure this out.

download a copy of luna.msstyles here:
http://users.pandora...patchy/luna.zip

Unzip it and MOVE the luna.msstyles which is present in that folder you unzipped to next folder: C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\Luna
Don't move it to anywhere else than that folder!

When moved it there, rightclick on your desktop > properties ... and look if Windows XPstyle is now present again. Choose apply and OK.

If not, reboot first, and try again to select Windows XPstyle

Here's the latest HJT. The only thing different since the last one is the regedit. Let me know if I need to re-do the HJT in safe mode AFTER the regedit I just did.

Did you see the post above about fixing your theme?

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg (make sure that Save as Type is set at "All Files") on your Desktop. Ensure there is no space at above REGEDIT 4.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"System"=-
"System"=""

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Reboot into safe mode

Open Hijack this and check the following:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{94DA7127-4609-4910-A5C0-09F2371F7E95}: NameServer = 69.50.188.180 85.255.112.5

Click FIX CHECKED

Once in safe mode, double click rkfiles.bat file to run it. It will scan for a while, so please be patient. Wait until the DOS window closes. The log file will be C:\log.txt

Reboot back to normal mode and post the contents of log.txt in your next post.

Reboot into normal mode, and please post a fresh HiJack this log

Thanks,

Excal

The 017 is not showingup in HJT while in safe mode, but then shows up when in normal mode. So I was not able to fix it in safe mode. Here's the latest:
