I been having this problem with my computer.
My taskbar has been freezing every time i log to the internet.
I try Ctrl+Alt+Delete but it doesnt open up. i can see a green square by the clock,
but it doesnt show up. I tried Reformating it with my XPcds, but somefiles wherent able to copy to HD. Now i dunno what to do afterr taskbar freezes i have to turn my computer off and turn it back on, and it is frustating.

Any idea how to fix this. i have 256ram and i dont think tahts the problem cuz it worked fine before and i dont have much installed on my computer that loads up my ram.

Oh btw my taskbar un-freezes but it freezes back again

There are malware programs that disable task manager.

start > run
regedit
enter

navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

right click the policies folder, choose EXPORT, then export it to your desktop as pol.reg.

Now, right click on that file, choose open with, choose notepad, and cut and paste the results

try doing some malware scans as suggested by this forum.

you say you tried reinstallilng? like...full on format reinstall? that should have corrected anything...unless you just did a repair maybe.

I just finished battling this problem. The issue is the wuitgurd.exe program. This is a virus that I believe only affects XP with SP1 or lower. It will cripple your computers resources (ties up CPU)

I got rid of it by doing the following:

end task on wuitgurd.exe. You may have to reboot and quickly open the taskmanager before wuitgurd.exe launches.

do a search on your hard drive (all files/folders) for wuitgurd.exe

delete any instances found

Install XP service pack 2 (I have a CDROM with SP2 on it which I ordered from Microsoft) If you have to install from microsoft update web site, keep the taskmanager open and end task immediately on wuitgurd.exe if it starts again during SP2 installation.

Update SP2 with ALL latetest security fixes

I haven't had a problem with wuitgurd.exe since taking the steps aboove. I assume you are running XP with SP-1 or lower....correct?
