Hey. I am new to designing games. I have been sketching out ideas for it and I have came to the conclusion of what I want to do. I have no experience designing games or anything. What should I do now that I have my idea down. What I want to do is like create a short demo or trial version of the game and let people try it out and give me some suggestions and feedback. How would I go about beginning designing my game? Thanks for any help.

Anyone can help me? I need to know what are some good programs to use that are free for the moment. Also, i would need to know how to begin making models, terrain, etc on those programs if possible. Thanks in advance!

That's a very ambitious project! Game design today usually begins by creating 3D models in a program like Maya or 3DStudioMax. Then the game is developed using a licensed game engine (like Quake or Doom).

This article will give you a better idea of what's invloved:

Here's a link to a free open source game engine:

Either way you're going to need some very good coding knowledge.

Thanks for the tip. The legal, copyright, and trademark will be no big deal. My dad is going to help cover all of that for me. He's good in the legal part, but not the coding. So the Genesis3D will be one to use?

What should I do to make a racing game?
Or a RPG game in the style of Diablo II?

I have two ideas like those in mind. Except the D2 one will not be d2, but with the look of the 2D type Diablo II.

So what would I need to do to make a game of one of the above?

Thanks.

That's really far beyond the scope of what we'll be able to help you with in this forum. Try this resource: http://www.gamedev.n...mmunity/forums/
