Are you using Microsofts Java Virtual Machine or Sun's Java Runtime Enviroment?

If I know this I may be better able to help you.

I hate to edit but I forgot to tell you if you aren't using Sun's Java you should.
You can install Sun's Java here. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

In IE under
tools---internet options--advanced tab scroll down to Microsoft VM

is
JIT compiler for virtual machine
Checked?
If not check it and then try your java sites again.
