So, thanks in advance for the help and here is my log...

Hi clueless2 and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.

a. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
b. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
c. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi Trevuren!

Okay, I moved HJT to it's own folder under c:program files - please let me know if it needs to be directly off the C: drive and I will move it.

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.oneclicks...es.com/bar.html

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Now using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following files/folders(and all of their content), if they still are present:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\hp612B.tmp
C:\Program Files\PSGuard<---Folder

Open Ad-Aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Now open Ewido Security Suite
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save Report
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!

Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

Let us know if any problems persist.

Finally, run HJT, click SCAN, and post a log back into this thread for review.

Thanks for the fast reply!

I am having issues getting onto the Ewido website - I have done all the other items you listed and once I get the Ewido program installed, I will be ready to reboot in SafeMode...I assume I should not go any further until I can get the program downloaded.

Don't you already have EWIDO installed on your system?

I did, but I was not sure if I set it up the same way you suggested, so I uninstalled it and was going to reinstall it following the specific directions...

Then we will have to wait until the site re-opens. That is the only place to get the program.

I am not sure if I need to start a new thread or if this is all related, so I am posting here to start...

Last night after uninstalling Ewido and running CleanUp!, I shut down the PC and was planning to reinstall Ewido and continue with the steps outlined in last help message once the Ewido site was up again.

When I rebooted the PC, I get the following errors:
- Invalid syntax error when trying to use IE (logged into my work PC to send this message!)
- A number of messages appeared that say "The application failed to initialize properly (0x800000004)

Now I am at a total loss about what I should do next!

Try this,

1. Please go to Start -> Run -> type cmd and press Enter.

2. At the command prompt type sfc /scannow, making sure to put a space between the "c" and the slash, and then press Enter. This will run the System File Checker.

3. Follow the prompts, and insert your Windows installation CD if requested.

4. Then please REBOOT your computer.

I ran the system file checker...it seemed to run, but it did not promt me at all. Once it finished, I rebooted and still have the same errors. Now I am not sure it ran correctly or if I need to do something else. Thanks for continuing to help me!

This is one thing that has been recommended by the EXPERTS

1. Rename C:\Windows\System32\wininet.dll>>>C:\windows\System32\wininet.old

2. Then proceed to this folder : C\Windows\System32\dllcache\ and copy the wininet.dll from there and paste it into the C:\Windows\system32\ folder.

3. REBOOT your computer and try to get online again.
