I don't seem to have a wininet.dll file in the dllcache folder...

Using the Search function on your system, Start>>Search>>For Files and Folders type wininet.dll into the search box and make sure that you search all of drive C.

It will give you many places where this file may be found. Copy one of them and PASTE it into your System32 folder

Or better yet, here is a tip from Bananafanafo (Miekiemoes batch file), an EXPERT in the field. She will be following along with us on this one.

Copy everything in the code box below and paste it into notepad. Go up to "File > Save As..." and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as wininet.bat on your desktop.

dir %Systemdrive%\wininet.dll /a h /s > files.txt
start notepad files.txt

Double click wininet.bat and when it is ready it will open files.txt
Copy the content of files.txt and paste it here

Using Windows Explorer, please go into C:\I386 folder.

Locate WININET.DLL

Right-click on it and choose "copy".

Then, go into C:\Windows\System32

Locate wininet.dll in the system32 folder. Right-click and select rename and rename it to wininet.old then right-click an open space and choose paste to paste the WININET.DLL that you copied earlier.

Reboot your computer and see if you are still receiving the syntax error, etc.

Let me know if you run into any problems. If this doesn't work, we will try copying it from another location on your computer.

Okay, that worked and I am back online and don't have the other errors...my question now is should I run a new HJT log and post it or can I just go back and follow the instructions I had gotten before this whole mess (post #4)? Thanks!

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.

Now, using Windows Explorer, DELETE the following files/folders (with all their content), if they still exist:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\hp612B.tmp
E:\install\workflow.exe

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.


Run Ewido:

• Click on scanner
• Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
• When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
• When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
• Save the report to your desktop

Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
