Hi there,

I see this is the place to be for help with spyware and the like. Well after having read through a few other posts with similar problems to mine, I tried running through the various steps you detailed.

Adaware found 16 critical entries which were deleted. I also came across a few WEBREBATES files which I also got rid of... I would be grateful if you could check through my Hijack log file and advise on what to do.

One other point, when I start my internet connection a DOS window displays with the CMD.EXE file displayed... shortly after several windows pop up with headings such as "C.HTML" "D.HTML" "E.HTML" and the random "YEAJUKZ".

Hope you can help...here's my Hijack log.
Many thanks, Angel

Hi Lagarto. Welcome ot Geeks to Go. <_<

It appears that you don't have any antivirus programs running.

Let's do a few things.

Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select delete all offline content.

Download Ad-aware from: http://www.geekstogo...n=download&id=5

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

-> Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:
  • Automatically save log-file
  • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
  • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :
  • Scan Within Archives
  • Scan Active Processes
  • Scan Registry
  • Deep Scan Registry
  • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
  • Scan my Hosts file
  • Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
  • All of your hard drives
-> Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:
  • Include additional process information
  • Include additional file information
  • Include environment information
  • Include additional object details
-> Click the Tweak button and select:
  • Under the Scanning Engine:
    • Unload recognized processes during scanning
    • Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
    • Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
  • Under the Cleaning Engine:
    • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
-> Click on Proceed to save the settings.

-> Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:
  • Use Custom Scanning Options
-> Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

-> Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

-> When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

-> Reboot your computer.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic.

Thanks for your quick reply Coachwife6.. :D
I ran through everything you recommended - just couldn't connect to the net to run the online antivirus, but I ran another one anyway and found quite a few nasties lurking around... 88 in total!

After a good clean-up I ran Hijackthis and below is the report of hopefully a much healthier PC.
Your advice is much appreciated. <_<

Lagarto:

Why don't you add an antivirus program before we get started. There is a free one available from Grisoft.

If you don't have an antivirus program running and we clean up your log, you have the chance of being reinfected rather quickly and we both would have wasted our time.

I'll check back with you later. <_<

Good-day there! <_<

I have Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal installed now - it done a good job picking up trojans and Malware. I ran the Cleaner program and it found nothing - Adaware found a further 11 spyware files, related mainly to the 180searchassistant prog.

Is Kaspersky a suitable anti-virus prog? It's been highly recommended by a one of my peers and seems to have done a good enough job.

You have a lot of viruses in your log.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Please download GetService.zip
Extract it to a new folder in the desktop. Double click on the Getservice.bat file to run it. This will create and open a text file named getservice.txt in the same folder. It will then open getservice.txt for you.
getservice.txt will list all active Services. Copy and paste the contents of getservice.txt in your next reply here. From the moment you post your list, until you see a detailed fix written up, DO NOT reboot your system or log off. If you do, the service will have changed and the fix provided will not work

Include a new hijack log as well.

I don't like the looks of this one: C:\WINDOWS\TWAIN_32\A4s2\STOP.EXE

Navigate to this file, right click on it, and select properties from the popup menu. Reply with what's displayed.

Look legit. Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D

One other point, when I start my internet connection a DOS window displays with the CMD.EXE file displayed... shortly after several windows pop up with headings such as "C.HTML" "D.HTML" "E.HTML" and the random "YEAJUKZ".

I too have this issue.. and I have Run adaware, have Pc-Cillin installed and receive the following Hijack this Log:
