Troj_istbar_o (Downloader.trojan) [RESOLVED]

I recently found that I had a TROJ_ISTBAR_O virus on my computer and managed to find and delete it using Trojan and spy ware removal programs.

I also found, through my firewall event log, that the virus was causing the site www7.logih.com/help.asp to be accessed without me knowing. I managed to stop that by deleting the files vbsys2.dll and ide21201.vxd which were in the System 32 file.

I also deleted from my hijack this log, from reading forums, the following:

I've also got another problem where I can't install programs I download from the internet for instance I downloaded Msn 7.0 and tried to install it. It came up saying extracting and then made an alert sound and then did nothing. It did this everytime i double clicked it.

this dll isn't affecting my computer is it?

I don't actually use multiple monitors

I found out that my graphics card may be stuffing up and was causing all the errors which had a modname of nview.dll. I may have to reinstall it or upgrade the drivers. Anyway I should have it fixed by the end of the week, and i'll notify you on the results.

My computer has no more, to my knowlegde, viruses. but i just wanted to know what "alexa related" is cos i found one when i was doing a spybot scan.

It was a file but i didn't delete it cos it was in the windows/web folder and was called "related" but i found out its safe to delete so thanks for the help.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.

Ive got Spybot and adaware and im considering getting spyware blaster and spyware guard. I got firefox and wanted to know what I had to do in about:config to get the most out of firefox and is there an IE/Spyad for firefox

Get Spywareblaster. It works with Firefox and Its free. Ie spyad and Spywareblaster do about the same thing With the 2 programs you have and Spywareblaster you should have a well protected system
