Can anyone me please, my computers telling me my task manager has been disabled by the administrator but thats me and i havent. I ran Spy Sweeper, Spy Bot, BT Yahoo Anti-spy, AVG, ewido, cleanup and hijack this. The spyware programs picked up a few things but I still cant access the Task Manager. I was infected by SpySherrif and Antivirus Gold malware but i followed instructions on a forum and thought i got rid them. Here is the HJT log. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Welcome AdmanM to Geeks to Go!

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

***

Disable Spysweeper for it will get in the way of cleaning up.

Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck 'automaticly restore default without notifiction".
Reverse the process when you’ve carried out the advise.

***

Download SmitRem
your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

***

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

***

Please download the trial version of ewido security suite.Install ewido security suite
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will prompt you to update click the OK button

The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files. On the left hand side of the main screen click update
Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed, close Ewido for now.

***

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, please download and install AdAware SE 1.06.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first.

***

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

***

Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Let's remove what Panda left behind.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\WINDOWS\System32\vx.tll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hst32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vxh8jkdq5.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wcnl32.dll

For these file, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

Use Windows Explorer to remove these:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites\AdultGambling.url
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites\Free Online Dating.url
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites\[bleep] Real Girls.url <= the bleep didn't get through our filters :tazz:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites\Kill Annoying Popups.url
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites\Online Sex Poker Rooms.url
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites\Play Adult-Poker.url
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites\Remove Toolbars.url
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites\Spyware Uninstall.url
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites\XXX personal photos.url
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites\[b]AdultGambling.url

Check to see if there are others you'd like to remove.
Then, close Windows Explorer.

***

Download: deldomains.
To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart)
Should the link above display the text instead of downloading the file, then copy & paste the text into notepad and save the file as DellDomains.inf
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

***

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
Press the button 'save list'. It will open a Notepad file. Place the content of that file here in your answer please.

***

Download LSPfix.

***To start the LSPfix....Close all windows except LSPfix

Launch LSPfix.zip and install to its own folder, then click on LSPfix.exe. Or click on LSPfix.exe and it will launch the program.

In the left hand (keep) LSPfix window there will be a list of files. Find

c:\windows\system32\avgfwafu.dll

Put a check mark in the box “I know what I am doing”

Move all instances of avgfwafu.dll files that are listed on the O10 line, from the left window (keep) to the right window (remove) by highlighting the file or files and clicking the arrow.

Click ‘Finish’

There's just Panda telling us there is something left in the Registry. No files or anything left, we cleared it out.

You may want to defragment the disk. That could be speed your computer up a bit too.

--------------

I have a speech waiting for you :tazz:
No more issues on the computer?

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
