My user switching feature wont work with Windows XP pro, SP 2.

When i try "log off" "switch users" and click on any other account at the welcome screen (other than that of the one i logged off of) it looks like it begins to load, but then sends me back to the Welcome screen.

Yes, I have 2 accounts, 1 guest account
All work independently and from a cold boot.
I am unable to switch b/w users once logged on to one

Open, Control Panel.
Open, User Accounts.
Click on the "The way a user logs on or off" option.
See if "Fast User Switching" is enabled.

"Fast User Switching Compatibility" Service in services.msc is used so that two user can co-operatively work on the exact same program.
But u want only normal user switching.
I have seen few instances where this particular service causes problems in normal user switching.
So disable the service.
And check again.

tried to disable fast user in services.msc....
Does not work
2 profiles now, when i log into one, and try to "log off" switch users", i get to the welcome screen, click on the second account, it begins to load for a few seconds, like it is trying.... the welcome screen goes and right before it goes any further, it kicks back to welcome screen. can only get back into the one logged off of.
any ideas?
thx for the help, its frustrating the heck out of me

fast user switching depends on remote procedure call (RPC) service running

is it? is it set to start automatically?

also, is terminal services service running? set to automatic?

gerryf,
The user sent me a PM, saying that his problem was solved.
It was the terminal services after all.

I had this problem once. I had a trojan. I sugest you scan for viruses. Delte all the viruses if any. then reformat your computer. Even if thier isnt a virus I suggest you reformat. Thats how I fixed my problem. But I ues the ctrl alt del log in way now...

GOOD LUCK! ;)
